What constitutes an "athletic person"... standards?

Personally, I think you have to be able to hold your own in a fight with someone in your size range to be considered athletic.

Well my standards are

25+ vertical

15 Foot long jump

Bench 1.25x their weight

50 Pushups

5:00 Plank

5:00 mile or better

12 second hundred or better

Is good at basketball, football, baseball or hockey

Or soccer but level of play should be higher than other 4

Can defend themselves against someone 10 percent heavier than them and reasonably fit.

I'd say simply "above average" in most if not all of the six basic categories (at least, I can only remember six) of athleticism ...

Speed (100m dash, for example)

Strength (squats/deadlifts/benchpress/etc.)

Endurance (mile or 1.5 mile or 3k or at the very most 5k)

Agility (shuttle drill in football, for example)

Explosive Power (broad jump or vertical jump, for example)

Proprioception (balance and hand-eye coordination exercises)

... "average" isn't too demanding (what, something like 7:00 for a mile? for "Endurance")

oh, and flexibility. I forgot that one, so that's seven. There might have been another category though, I don't remember... it's been a few years :(

^^This with one tweak. Be able to hold your own in a fight with someone twice your size.

These standards aren’t the highest and although every “athlete” is different, the one thing they all have in common they all strive to be the best they can be. I am a skinny weak hobby jogger who spends most of my training life jogging 9 minute miles around my town and I can do all of these.

I would class a person who can do 4 or more of these as “in good shape” without a shadow of a doubt in better health than 95% of people but for an athlete I would change the standards to be.

To be better than 99%of people I would say classes you as an athlete.

Mile-

Men: sub 5

Women: sub 6

100m:

Men- sub 13

Women-sub 15

Squat:

Male- 2.5x bw

Female- 1.5x bw

Deadlift:

Men- 2.5x bw

Women-1.25x bw

Bench:

Male- 1.5x bw

Female-0.7x bw

High jump (not veryical, don’t understand vertical):

Men- 1.6m

Women- 1.2m

The marathon, I don’t think is relevant to normal athletes. Usain bolt probably couldn’t finish a marathon without walking. Under 5 hours is probably better than 99% could manage but to consider yourself an athlete I would say that if you are no stranger to distance training then under 4 should be the bare minimum not to be considered a hack. Under 3 if you have 3 or more years of racing experience.

Ooof. Well I can do all of them. Except the bench press. Can't bench my own weight.

If I can't meet all of these standarda I'm not an athletic person? ?
