I can not tolerate people praising a doped up Mary for beating the "powerful doping Eastern Europeans". Please somebody release the covered up positives and the Nike corruption. These things were long before poor Mary's unfortunate mistake of having too much red wine, after sex, while on birth control pills, at the wrong time of the month with a test that is no longer valid despite the fact that the results were 10x the norm.

Her MOM was the one who "kind of put that connection into her head." Parents influence the opinions of their kids.

For all we know, that may be the reason why Mary Cain shares the same first name as her "idol."

Almost everyone who lives in Eugene has had similar experiences with Slaney. The poor elderly woman who inadvertently bumped her cart into Slaney at Costco. Yes!! Let's see all the results from the "NO LONGER VALID" test. You do know that USATF did clear her.

We don't need no stinking logic.

The T:E test has an even lower threshold for positive 4:1 down from 6:1

Slaney's T:E ratio was 11:1

Earlier this year, on this website, it was stated that Decker failed the a sample but passed the b. If this is true then why is she treated like a criminal when Bernard Lagat also failed an a sample but passed a b. He, to the contrary, is treated like a hero. Could someone explain the double standard....

I was responding to a early post that said that the test was no longer valid. I have no proof.

Why did USATF clear her?

How do you know that she might always have been doping. As for Cain she probably does not know about the doping or is actually an avid letrun fan where the rule is:

fast times = doper (unless you are Bolt!)

Failed drug test like Merrit or Gay innocent or 'let down by somebody'

Rojo's comments about Alana Hadley were off but these Mary Cain comments are disturbing. Expecting some 17-year-old to modify the people they emulate to meet rojo's expectations is beyond pompous.

Would you tell your son he couldn't buy a pair of Jordans because Jordan cheated on his wife and gambled too much?

Cain hates LRC. Read the interview. She said that "adult men writing nasty things" about her is why she does not read track blogs.

Let's tell the truth here. The USATF did reinstate her, but the IAAF took the case to arbitration, and the arbitrators ruled in favor of the IAAF and stripped Slaney of a medal she "won" when she was "cleared to compete" by the USATF.

The test WAS ruled valid. These days that 11:1 ratio would have sent her results to the CIR and she, like Gatlin, would have had no chance in hell of disputing it.

I posted a hilarious meme awhile back with one of you at a track meet and wrote, "Caffeine. One hell of a drug."

I thought it was pretty funny. And nownit seems...apropos.

The majority of responders are clearly against Rojo here. To distill their argument, "She's just 17. Let her be 17."

Yes, she is just 17. And it would be convenient if she were able to act like she was 17.

But the complication is that most 17 year-olds aren't living a life with the scrutiny or responsibilities that Mary Cain now has. Taking millions from Nike and being the runner of your generation is pretty heavy stuff. Starting now, everything Mary Cain does is going to get parsed and parlayed to an incredible degree... for better or worse.

So I'm not sure it's the right move to make excuses for her because she's young. I'm with Rojo -- in cases like this, it's helpful if she's constructively educated about the context of what she says.

Rojo is slowly becoming the online running community's equivalent of Nancy Grace. The whole "drug cheat" moniker he loves to use is very reminiscent of the angry-toned "Tot Mom" term NG used for Casey Anthony.

One has to wonder if this kind of vitriol (passed off as quality journalism) is just an unattractive manifestation of "Slow Twin Complex".

I've thought for the last few years his psychotic obsession with drug use has distorted his common sense and ethics. I guess those are classes they either don't teach where he went to college or he skipped them.
