Would this thread even exist if Teg had tried to take the tangent and made slight contact with the Ethipoian runner? Probably, but many would be defending Teg's actions
Talking to the race director last night I heard that the Ethiopian had scratches and a bruise on his face from Teg punching him. Sounds like Teg's about to be DQd.

I think the little guy was kind of shoved into Teg. But even if he did bump him intentionally do two wrongs make a right? Why could Teg not have taken the high road. The little guy might have had a bad week - sick mother, large debt coming due, living on the streets, been rear-ended on way to race. Why could Teg just been an honorable man and just simply let the issue die. He probably still stewing about the incident and this is what leads to ulcers. He needs to LET IT GO!!!

That aggression by Teg cost him the race. In a short race like that you can't lose concentration.
That said though if a skinny African runner pulled a move like that on me I would have done probably the same damn thing. And had some choice words with him after the race.
1. This is Teg's living and he has to fight for every inch.
2. Teg is a bigger guy and it's about time bigger guys take advantage of that size. Don't give small guys the respect they think they deserve. Show them a win will have to be at the cost of some jabs and elbows and a bruise here or there.
Reality is, the africans were going to play the knock out game with Teg. Teg asserted his authority and nipped it in the bud.

I think you've been watching a few too many western movies.
a) That was an unnecessary overreaction by Teg, but only because it was a waste of energy.
b) Isn't this what we (the letsrun community) have been wanting? Top tier athletes to show some personality and fight? When was the last time people had a good discussion on what happened in the middle of a 5k? I think it would be good for the sport if "incidents" like this happened more often.
