I resemble that remark! I think something like that could cause a world hype for track and field. Rudisha yelling at Aman and Symmonds that he will give them a two second head start and still destroy them. Hey it works in all other sports, people like to see it. Drives up the box office...that is a fact. The 800 men would be interviewed again and again what they were gonna do as Rudisha says he is gonna go sub 1:40 against them soon...real soon. Just a thought.

Solomon did not go out too fast, his mistake was slowing down too soon. That second 200 was 26.78 and let everyone get their bearings. After wasting effort on the 3rd to speed up to 26.50, the race was already set up for the strong finishers.

His first lap should have been sub-50. 23.5, 26.0 and 26.5 would have killed everyone but Aman by 600. Aman was destined to win this race, he's that good.

Good for Symmonds, great run, but quality of field was relatively low this year.

Quality of the field may have been abysmal, but I'll concede Rudisha's absence made the race more entertaining ... less predictable.

Yes. There was no need for him to lead the semis either, even though he feels comfortable in that position. "winning" the heats when not pushed to it is ridiculous, and athletes do it every champinship.

There's this thing called endurance. Mo has way more of it than Centro. Centro has more speed. That's why Mo would run 1:46, 3:28, and be dominant at 5-10k while Centro would destroy him in a 400 but fail in a 5k.

I mean if Centro runs a 3:31 off a 1:45 I imagine Rudisha could run 3:26 off his 1:40 by your dumb logic.

And why didn't Kiprop double 800m & 1500m?

To save himself for the 1500, which he is not a lock for if he doubles. Do you even watch this sport?

No it wasn't. Look at the PRs of this field vs. previous years. The Olympics last year was out of this world, other than that this year stacks up pretty well.

I just watched the video. I think you're wrong here. Yes, Symmonds' more aggressive racing tactic had consequences at the end (i.e., a lesser kick). No, he would not likely have won had he used his typical strategy (trailing the pack the first 500m). The reason is Aman is a superior runner. He came out of the box and blew everyone away the last 100m. Had Symmonds not boxed him, Aman would have gone earlier. There was no stopping him with Rudisha not in the race. You were right to "vote" for Aman in the first place.It is possible that Symmonds ran his best race ever, although not his fastest. He should be proud of his silver.

Solomon taking the lead, as he always does, was predictable and made him a likely sacrificial lamb ala Johnny Gray and KD Robinson styles of racing.

I didn't think Symmonds would go out and stay in back as he used to do. I figured the only way he would under perform was if he got too agressive...

That first 200 in under 24 doomed him.

He thought the title was his to go out and take and go out and get it and the way was to let Solomon lead.

Nope.

He'll be kicking himself for a long time after this.

His splits should tell the story.
