Jeilan was injured last year and many Africans weren't there last year. The fluke was Rupp winning the medal last year and Renato predicted it beforehand on this message board. He said that the Africans were unusually weak in the track distance events last year and that might give Rupp a chance to medal. Something I think Rupp fans don't want to remember.
More importantly, I think Rupp was a very poor sport today. Minimal congratulations to his training partner and alleged friend for winning a big race. Lost whatever respect for Rupp that I'd gained from London.

It doesn't matter. History has ebbs and flows. The runner still has to toe the line on that day and Rupp did, and beat every single athlete in the world, including the Africans who did or did not toe the line -- something they'd like not to remember.
You can only race who toes the line.
And Rupp's Silver Olympic Medal is FOREVER.

Still a pretty good race for Rupp, especially following a pretty mediocre outdoor season. Had he had his same last lap ability from Moscow he would have been right in there with Jeilan and Farah.
In answer to the question, I think it is certainly possible that Rupp will medal again.
whenever I read a post by rupp-certified saladbar, I am thankful that I don't interact with this person in the world outside the web. A truly poisonous character.
