Unless you know his 400/800 ability, the best you can reasonably offer is a range. Most people "predict" by guessing and often these guesses aren't worth much because they're just that, guesses.
Ventolin offers something more reliable and likely. But new information leads to better analysis, like a better indicator of 400m potential, etc.
To be honest, does he really offer anything? I'm under the impression he uses an online calculator and simply plugs the numbers into that?

No, it's not just plugging in numbers. He knows which numbers to plug in and he has a pretty thorough understanding of what's realistic and what's not.
