Carmelita Jeter Walks Out of Monaco Press Conference after Doping Question

A Duck, and this is not meant to be inflammatory, I'm really just curious. What do you believe? Do you believe that the distance athletes are clean? I want to be honest, I am no Galen Rupp fan but I want him and Farah to be clean. I hope that they are but I suspect that they aren't or operate in the grayest of areas. I say this not as an indictment of Al Sal or either of the athletes but only because of the Armstrong argument. Meaning that if you're competitive against the top guys and they end up being doped, then it would be nearly impossible for you not to be doped. I'm in my 40's and I have friends who play or have played in MLB the NBA and the NFL. PED usage is rampant in all of the sports especially the NBA and I would guess because most people would not suspect that. Now this is what I have been told by people who have witnessed this themselves and who have also taken part in PED use. I want to believe that track especially distance running is clean but I'm having a harder time believing it these days. I'm a realist and I'm not indicting anyone. Although I think that Alberto comes off as a pr*ck sometimes, I don't know him and I'm not calling him that. I think that he is a very good coach for some runners and for some distances. He is not set in his ways and I like that about him. If Rupp is dirty then so is Teg and Solinsky and everyone else. Solinksky couldn't very well beat someone who was doped if he weren't doped himself. It's disappointing to me but that is the reality of professional sports. Look at Tiger Woods. With his links to Galea I am very suspicious of him as well. Everyone is always looking for an advantage and there is a lot at stake.

The point I'm trying to make is that when money/titles/fame is involved doping is involved at that level. Doesn't matter if it's the NFL/MLB or Track.

I was not there for Carmelita's press conference today. I was there for Mo Farah's earlier in the day.

There were no restrictions on what could be asked with Mo.

There were questions asked to Mo in regards to the positive tests this week. He answered them fine.

As for Jeter, she has a history of refusing to answer questions not about herself. In Lausanne two weeks ago she refused to answer a non-doping question about Usain Bolt. I wrote this about the Lausanne press conference, "a woman asked Jeter and Kimberlyn Duncan what they could learn from Usain Bolt. Duncan gave a nice generic response, and then Jeter said this, "Well right now myself and Kimberlyn Duncan are here so I’d like to pertain only to questions about myself and Kimberlyn Duncan."

At the Trials and/or Olympics last year, I remember her being difficult about pretty tame questions not related to her directly.

And then there was the incident at the Olympics last year where I ask her about her association with convicted doper Mark Block after she won bronze at 200. Her response was about as intense as it gets:

Having said that:

1) Ground rules can be set for interviews.

2) If the journalists don't like the ground rules, I think they should protest beforehand. If the rules are not changed, then I think the journalists should respect the rules or walk out, not try and ask the question.

3) However, if it's announced just prior to the start of the press conference and the journalists don't have time to protest the rules (not sure what happened here), then I think a better course of action would be to directly address to the athlete or manager why it is a legitimate question in the press conference. No need to try and pretend not to ask a doping question. I think the press officer has an obligation to inform the journalists in advance of any restrictions on questions.

Idk Jeter and didn't even know what she looked like, but sympathize with her walking out, which she did in a dignified manner.

The drug issues are stupid, and the drug questions are ignorant, promoted by the drug corporations and their mindless sheep drug believing promoters and followers.

I sympathize with athletes who want to keep their focus on athletics and to not waste their time with stupidity.

With this in mind, I applaud Jeter and Fraser for walking out of the venue and keeping their focus on athletics.

The question is asked in malice and all athletes, including the ones who test positive claim to be innocent, so at best you sound just like every other cheat/liar when you deny using drugs. I would not dignify the question with a response or reward the questioner with any more answers.

I think she WAS doping until about a week ago. In fact, I suspect the level of doping is just about zero this week around the globe. Fear rules greed this week.

Terrible PR move on her part. Might as well scream "Excuse me, I'm trying to hide something, must be on my way now".

If she's not on drugs, she sure gives a lot of outward hints that's she's doing something sketchy. Definitely not a fan after her last ~18 months.

NOP is clean. I don't offer opinions on athletes, groups, or coaches I don't know personally.

I'm not even sure that there are men who look like those two, naturally. I know there aren't any women.

That said, their faces in that press conference looked guiltier than their bodies ever looked.

I hope I never have to watch them race again.

look...i saw the interview, and though she did walk out after that question was asked, she was polite about it. and there werent any other questions being asked...at least not quickly. so anyone saying she was angry about it is wrong. the athletes dont have to do press conferences. they can leave
