What country are your favorite country to visit for a vacation/leisure traveles?

I'd like to go to Israel and ask for a return of the hundreds of billions in US taxpayer monies they have jacked from us over these past decades

Never been to Iceland but the Aurora Borealis is unforgetable. Take the cheap flight and do it.Saw it from Alaska many years ago have always wanted to go back.

From friends who went there: touring the volcanic countryside is pretty awesome, Reykjavik's night life is fun, and Icelandic hot dogs are delicious.

There was an episode of No Reservations about Iceland if you want some idea of things to do there.

So true. I used to take my trips to "exotic" places much like Mr. Country Club wannabe claims. They were interesting, but honestly hard on the body and no more beautiful or interesting than travel in English speaking less-exotic places. At some point in time I realized that it is difficult to continually try to navigate in Spanish, Chinese or Slavic speaking countries and for what? The right to brag that I'd been to so and so? I've come to realize that bragging has a lot to do with it for many of these folks. My travel in recent years has been to Canada, USA (millions of places still to see here), Guyana, New Zealand, Hong Kong, etc....all English speaking places (though I wonder about some parts of the USA). What I have found is that these are the most interesting and/or forward thinking places of any in the world...the English figured out how to put common sense into life. I suppose Contry Club wannabe would find interest in a place like Petra, but it cannot compare to the beauty of so many areas of Western US. Now if you are an archeologist, I can understand why that would be on the top of your list...but for the joy and beauty of travel....not even close (and for a guy who seems to zipline where ever he goes??).

Country Club Wannabe has been unfairly castrated by you all. It is unfair to make fun of a guy who gets pleasure out of fantasizing on a message board at 3:00 in the morning. Let him tell us he spends half his life travelling on a budget to Nepal and Namibia. Even if, as a couple of you projected, he is living on his mommy's money, or if he is simply lying, we can all add a little spice to our lives by simply closing our eyes and riding the coattails of a fantasy.

To me, the language barrier is part of the fun of traveling. I love languages.

Considering that much of the world exists in non-English-speaking places, you're limiting yourself considerably. But to be sure, there's enough beauty and wonder in the world to travel for a lifetime in English speaking as well!

Mexico is far and away my favorite. I've got a place in Merida now, and plan to move there in the next couple of years.

I've been to Paris, Nicaragua, and three times to Mexico this year. I'm headed to Puerto Vallarta in two weeks, and then back to Merida at the end of January. I'd travel more but I only get four weeks vacation.

It's absolutely possible to travel on the cheap and travel often. I can spend a week in Mexico for $30/night, usually, and the flight is $400 or less. I can stay in Nica for even less than that, but it's a $600 flight.

I've heard that Iceland is EXPENSIVE for the traveller. The only thing that travellers talk about is the thermal areas and a beautiful waterfall. It is even expensive to get to Reyjkavik (sp?) from the airport at Keflavik.

I loved Australia. Traveled there quite a few times for work in the past. Beautiful country and cool people.

I spent almost a month in Switzerland and Northern Italy, hiking with American friends in the mountains on most days. The trails are very well marked and are not so difficult that a novice can't enjoy them. On days when you don't want to hike, there are cities, cathedrals, museums galore. The cost? We averaged $30 a day by staying mostly in hostels. Being careful about meals (buy groceries at markets) can make travel in Switzerland extremely affordable.

Hiking/camping: New Zealand, Nova Scotia

Shopping/concerts/theatre/culture: NYC, Paris, London, Rome, Florence
