That's a very interesting observation.

Those young women were playing it smart, and saving their effort for Footlocker West. That's a smart way to do it.

It definitely shows that Footlocker is the most important to them. Awesome.

That's fair. The run by Williams is probably her best of the season (although I'd argue not by a whopping margin). She was the favorite in this race, but your right you'd expect more like a 10 sec victory or less. I think the main answer is that the CA field was quite weak in this race. Maxwell is solid, but I don't think there was any other CA runner with a 17:40 or faster Woodward PR in the entire field. The really surprising aspect of this runner is her transformation from last year to this year. Last year I don't think she was even a sub 19 runner on any 5k course.

The "depth" is in the field, not in the teams. Schools are bunched together splitting the talent. Hurts CA teams in national meets.
