lets keep the thread going
Also to be noted. Chris Lee 4:00 in the 1500m as a junior at Loomis Chaffee teammates with Tully Hannan was recently an All-American at XC nationals. For someone who never ran cross in highschool to 17th in the country is pretty impressive. Also to be noted Nate Sans of St. Paul's had an impressive season along with others. Past alum from loomis Sohail Faraz ran in the 14:20's 5k and 29:00's 10k at Haverford never an all-american but never broke 9:10 in the 3k in highschool. On the girls side Nora Weather a MPS alum made a debut at national xc's as a freshman and has been a stand out. Loomis alum if you couldn't tell. Exeter is a dominant force it seems like, but to many talented runners from NEPSTA schools try and shoot for DI without much success. Its to bad.
Word.
Do any Nepsta schools have official indoor track?
Wow, just looked at this thread for the first time since about a day after I started it this fall. I had no idea it ended up getting so many posts. A few thoughts:
1. I said something about Tully Hannan and then "I was a D3 All-American at Bates last year." In case it wasn't obvious already, that was a typo; I meant he was an All-American. I'm still in high school.
2. To the person who corrected that the "P" in NEPSTA stands for "preparatory," not just "prep"... I know, I just didn't want to sound toooo pretentious haha.
3. I don't know much about other schools, but I don't think any NESPTA leagues have indoor seasons. Could be wrong, though. My school does "officially" have indoor track, but we don't get to have many meets. We aren't allowed to compete in a lot of local meets because we are a part of NEPSAC and not our state's athletic conference.

I think if the 1500 isn't much faster than that Horton will have it, he's got a monster kick
alright history lesson here. You wanna engage in c. 2004 NEPSTA XC discussion it need be said here that if you laced 'em up against P.Exeter in this era you know Harry Norton was only their stud because Arno Ferg didn't care one iota about xc, and loved smoking pot. He would just show up in the fall having negative milage over the summer and in a week he'd be mid 15m for his 5k.
The following year's NEPSTA wasn't as fast as in '03 but LC's course is effectively a track that winds for 5k. Hotckiss was the site in in '03 and they have legit course with a ton of elevation change. steep long hills going up and down. Arno was the prohibitve favorite but he still managed to 'shock da world' if you will, with his performance. It was 26F at race time, and there was 3 inches of new snow all over the course. Not conducive to blazing times are those variables and even in spikes you were slipping and washing out. The 2nd place runner is my main hombre, bowbs, and he said A Ferg had it in the bag before the first split, was outta sight by the second, and at victory lap speed for about the last 1K.
And he took the course record to the woodshed to the tune of 30 or more seconds. Bowb's said it was the most absurd performance he's witnessed. And Bowb's knows. He's no tuna can on the track and road. 2x D-3 NCAA outdoor 800m All-American. And so when he says that there was prefontain-ian like talent on the course that day you take him at his word. Rumor had it that he had NH's Guor "Black" Majak by enough time to take make a ham sandwich in a friendly. Majak has D1 xc accolades. Fast.
And as far as the NEPSTA juggernaut discussion goes, St. Paul's is where it starts and stops historically. The new coach is a weenie so there reign of excellence is pretty much over but under the Chip Morgan regime it they were undeniable. Couldn't move to D1 despite the squad's top 5 consistently dominating D3 with times that were always top 3 in D1. Only when the schools complained about SPS's outright D3 domination did they get the bump.
You wanna talk about the Yankee's of NEPSTA xc it's SPS. They had the occasional stinker, a top 3 lock perenially until Morgan left. Never had the fastest guy in the field but his no. 5 runner usually top 12 or better. You got a bone ti pick with my assessment you let me know and I'll find a pic of the trophy room and findout if the # of 5-peats as ISL champs is in excess of the 3. I think they were close to a 10peat at once point.
Word.
Not sure, and don't care which NEPSTA division he's in but after watching Randon at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston, I've become a believer.
Sub 4:00 1500 and certainly faster at the 3000 than Hussein.

James Randon of Middlesex is D3
Any "prep" runners from around 1977-1981 out there? I imagine not but who knows. I ran for New Hampton School. That's Lakes Region new Hampshire, located 30 miles north of Concord. I.93 runs through it. Back then there were Class A and B and C for New England Prep schools. Just about all the races were "Lakes Region Championship". Each Saturday the same 7 to 10 teams competed. The only change was the venue. Holderness School, brewster Academy, Vermont Academy, KUA (Kimbal Union Academy), Proctor (in Andover NH), Tilton School. Joining the "Lakes Region" in the fall of 1980 was Winchendon Academy. It used to be that all private schools competed at the end of the season in their respective championship races (A,B, and C) and that was the end. However in the fall of 1980 another race was added, that being those who qualified from the A,B,C races. The top 15 individuals from each, plus the top 3 teams from each. The 1st race in 1980 (ABC) was held in Groton, Mass at the St. Lawrence school. Anyone from back then reading this?
The big teams historically have been St. Paul's, Exeter, Andover and Choate.
They've all had their eras. SPS may have fallen off less than the others during their 'off' years.
Did he really just a run a 4:12 indoor mile?

You're going off seed times way too much. I think there will be a couple suprises in there. I know reich only hit the 800 standard last meet cause he was off for a little with an injury.
