The strategists know that they need these people to turn out and vote in order to win. They know that these people are not going to vote for the black man, but some of them might not be too enamored with the mormon either. They thow out enough "red meat" to keep this faction of the party fired up.
This was not a gaffe. And if politics were out of the equation, most of us would be seriously pissed if some runner poser ("I was fast back then") tried to claim a time that others worked their asses off trying to achieve.

Haha. Please explain the President's "African Americans for Obama" campaign. Please explain supporters like Samuel L. Jackson who said "I voted for Obama 'cuz he's black". The media would flip if Romney had similar organizations/supporters...
I don't like Paul Ryan but I don't think this story is even worthy of a story or a pat on the back to anybody...
Paul Ryan in the running world is so insignificant that statements like that shouldn't even be paid attention to.
Distance running enthusiasts and tennis players are the most unfriendly and arrogant of all the athletes and to make big deal out of catching this whopper from a guy who lately has been saying REAL WHOPPERS is baffling.

Nobody would have cared about Ryan's marathon p.r. until he decided to fabricate his time.
Now I see facebook posts from friends across the political spectrum indicating how difficult it was (and how many years of training) to break 3 hours in the marathon......
The political angle may be that Ryan has a loose regard for the facts, but the running angle is really a resentment from the hard core runners because they know the effort it took for them to break 3 in the marathon. Most runners toil away in anonymity (pretty much like a Bill Walker), know their best times and are very proud (whether they'll admit it or not) of what they've accomplished in running.
The true message here is that runners care about their times, respect the process it took to achieve those times, and take a dim view of "posers" that try to crash the party.
Didn't someone start a previous thread about Ryans marathon time before Bill Walker did on here?
I swear seeing & replying on a similar thread a few days earlier, & then when I saw a second thread that Walker started, I thought to myself, another thread on this?
