Blake 9.85 pretty easy. Gay second, Gemili sneaks in for third but doesn't qualify.
Still mighty impressive!
So the final is set
Gatlin
Bolt
Blake
Gay
Powell
Martina
Bailey
Thompson
4 under 9.8? Gonna be exciting. Is NBC showing live?
Blake and Gay make it in with Blake .05 faster
Powell makes it in on time
Final:
Blake
Bolt
Powell
Gay
Gatlin
Bailey
Martina
Thompson
My picks weren't bad, I subbed Thompson for Collins when Collins was scratched.
The only one I got wrong was Bledman, Martina got in instead. Even if Bledman had been completely healthy, it seems that Martina would have beaten him for the spot.
Bolt, nobody doubts his ability to run from the front...what I question is his ability to run fast when trailing. I think he will grip, and that he therefore won't run as fast as he could.
But who knows, this is shaping up to be an epic final, the only drag seems to be that Powell is underperforming.
REALLY impressive by Gemili, holy crap.
He almost made the final. For me, his racing has been the most significant thing so far this Olympic 100m competition.
Hopefully he won't get carried away with things, and will find a coaching/training staff who will help him realize a good sprinting career, with continued improvement.
Hopefully.
Did anybody else see Blake limping as he walked off? I only caught a glimpse, so it was hard to tell.

I think you could say that for Gay and Powell as well. They do that through a lot of their races. I think it's just muscle tightness.
I don't know about Blake, but BOLT!!!!!!!!!!
Like he showed in the heats, he's got his start back. AMAZING.

My prediction of Blake for the win could turn out to have been VEERRRYY wrong.
Maybe Bolt will false start...
Asafa had a brain meltdown. Pity he isn't great mentally like Gay, Bolt and Blake.
Bolt looks better to me. He just has that thing where if he is 100% he is untouchable. I still back Gay for a good performance. Hope Asafa at least runs the entire race and leaves it all out there.
He seems to be AFRAID of Gatlin. Every time Gatlin passes him he eases up.
Ilemy, Bolt doesn't just look better, he looks INVINCIBLE.
There is a great lane draw for the final:
Thompson
Powell
Gay
Blake
Gatlin
Bolt
Bailey
Martina
Bailey right beside Bolt, what a great situation for your first Olympic final if you are Bailey!
Gatlin sandwiched between Blake and Bolt might be great for Bolt and Blake, if they can derive some benefit from Gatlin pulling them along in the first 30m
Gay right beside Blake, he knows that he can key off Blake, who is faster than him right now, and that he will get a good time by doing so.
Powell in the wilderness, between Gay and Thompson, both of whom he should absolutely smoke in the first 40m. Hopefully he won't look around, and will just run as if he is alone on the track, he could still post a good time in the final if he does so.
But, BOLT. This was a Beijing-quality run--if he had applied as much effort here as he had applied there, he would have gone 9.69...............IN A SEMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really looks as if the only one who has any shot of beating Bolt is Blake, and that is slim, unless Blake runs the race of his life...which he might.
Although we don't know how hard Gay has been going, it looks like Gatlin is significantly faster right now, judging by their semi's.
Gatlin has an excellent shot at a medal.
Gatlin looked good, looked like he had a little more in the tank.
Powell is done. Martina was with him until halfway, when Powell sneaked ahead by a stride, then Martina passed him with a couple of meters to go.
And check out Gatlin, Mr. Overstrider!
Incredibly, he looks to have further lengthened his stride at top speed, which is probably where he has found the extra couple of hundredths. I can't see him going much faster in the final, but if he can re-create his semi race, he should medal.
Gay is saving everything for the final.

Everything? I don't know. He did back off quite a bit, but it looked to me like Blake backed off even more and was still ahead convincingly.
I just don't see any way Gay is going faster than 9.79ish. I could be horribly wrong but we'll see.
I think he looked better in this semi than his semi in Berlin and he ran 9.69.
I think that Gay does have some more to give.
Look at his form, he is sitting back a bit, his head is tilting back, his arms are tightening, he is windmilling compared to Blake, who is running with tremendous power, and whose body position is one that permits much more force application to the track than does Gay's.
Was Gay just running with that form to glide through the semi, or was it his way of running fast this year? My guess is that he was just trying to run easily, without applying force, to conserve himself for the final.
Check it out, he is running with his hands closed, which he NEVER does when he is trying to go fast. He is just being compact and easy.
Of course, Blake was running even easier.
This will be epic.
Okay, I hate predictions but here goes...
1. Bolt
2. Blake
3. Gatlin
4. Gay
5. Powell
6. ???
7. ???
8. ???
