If, as I suggested above, slavery could be considered a highly selective environment, then the traits being selected for would likely include disease resistance, ability to survive on low food intake, and more endurance related traits (because, as you suggest, slave work in the fields was not explosive in nature). 300-400 years is probably not enough for any substantial population changes to occur in the absence of very, very focused breeding program. Plus, we know that West Africans are pretty good sprinters themselves.

I wouldn't want Usain Bolt flying a spaceship either, or driving me around for that matter. Not sure why you'd use a Jamaican sprinter as an example of the intelligence required to pilot an aircraft. Maybe if poke around a little, you'd discover that Jamaican AIRLINE PILOTS have one of, if not the best airline safety record in the world and are sought after more than their sprinters. Zero crashes/fatalities since their airline's inception - 1969.

How would you verify parentage? Would you kill or neuter the offspring which were not the preferred lines? That would be what you would need to do with an intentional selective breeding program for it to be effective (especially in such a time frame). Now we begin to see the practical difficulties.

Intelligence has been more important than athletic ability for quite a while. At least in most of Europe and most of E. Asia. Not so sure about Africa or Central or South America however (or a part of N. America known as Mexico).

True. Whites generally have more of the fast twitch fibers dedicated to strength, black usually more of the fibers dedicated to speed / explosiveness. Just go to any gym. Both are FT dominant based events, then you can say speed of contraction is totally different but in fact Gymnastics events and most of the throwing events have faster contraction times then sprinting. (Eg. Javelin 120ms/ Sprints 150ms-200ms).

See the Minnesota adoption study. Blacks adopted by upper class white families and given a good education STILL scored a full standard deviation below whites on IQ tests.
