i care what pros think a lot more than 17-minute 5k guys think. do you think that it is a big stretch to think that a an elite runner might have a better perspective on what is involved when an elite runner decides to switch sports to become an elite triathlete than a runner wannabe like yourself? perhaps you should seek some out and ask them what they think of LV doing tris (btw, it's not possessive). you might learn something.

There are people suggesting that his win here is less significant because he didn't beat any east africans. While there are few, if any, east african competitors on the world cup level, it does not detract one iota from the magnitude of this win. And for the ensuing rebuttals, I would remind the posters about the failed attempts to develop african athletes at the elite levels of swimming, cycling, and even cross-country skiing. These are all events that require enormous cardio-vascular abilities and endurance, and yet they haven't shown the potential here as they have in running. To suggest that if east africans competed in triathlon they would inevitably dominate is incredibly asinine. They wouldn't. While Lukas is an incredible runner, in comparison to the rest of the world, he's an even better triathlete. My hat goes off to him for his success and hard work.

At the end of the day, this is a 2nd tier sports where athletics with at best national level talent compete against each other.

I think Lukas chose the job (yes, this is a job) that pays more money. It is impressive for a 19 year old to be able to look at careers this way. Lukas has always been relatively mature and a hard worker. I don't see anything wrong with him choosing to make more money while beating the best in the world.

And forget money, why wouldn't he choose the triathlon if he's better at it? If I was a 3:59 miler but an Olympic level athlete in the triathlon right now, I'd be an idiot not to choose the latter. It is just as noble to be the best at either event.

This is really note worthy if you remember how LV haters spoke against him when he pulled out of Oregon. Most went further saying that he won't make it there as the Junior triathlons are so different.

The point is no need to drop into low 29s when you have beaten your competition good with upper 30s.

When it matters, he can drop to low 29s.

NO IT IS NO USUALLY SHORT...

Maybe your local tri is short which often occurs but the top tier triathlons are NOT USUALLY SHORT. There are the occasional mistake just like occasionally a marathon is miss measured. But this is rare.

you are aware that there is a swim and bike before the run, which isn't on the track? just checking. can you define "bahahaha?" i'm not familiar with that word. also, can you tell us all how it feels to be a slower runner than all of these triathletes? it must be an odd feeling to dump on someone as a runner but then have that runner be much faster than you.
