Yeah this guy is a freaking boss. Im sure the 1600 was set up as tactics, as it usally is with fast runners, thats why it wasnt blazingly fast. Still, that range is crazy.

Oh, here, I found some proof. He said himself in an interview that he ran 47.4 in the 400 his senior year

A relay 47.4 is worth about 49 something from the blocks.

Good question, not sure if he ran or just was an alternate (and was one of the first four names listed on the Hy-Tek file uploaded to Athletic.net)

I was there. In fact, I was the head Hy-Tek guy. The meet was at Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. Nick Hartle did not run the 4x400. In Nevada, athletes are limited to 4 events, so he didn't run the 4x800 (which his team won anyway or the 4x400.

On Friday, he ran the 1600 then the 400 about an hour plus later. He opened in 62+ then ran consistent 65/66s for an easy win. The 400 was just over an hour later. He was going for the state record, but it was just a bit too windy.

On Saturday, he ran the 800 and 3200, with about 1.5 hours in between. He ran the 3200 around 2 pm in 82 degree temps at 4400 feet altitude. Let's see any other HS kid do that for their 4th event in less than 24 hours.

The kid is special. He's built like Dathan Ritzenheim.

Oh, he's also the reigning state champion in cross country, also run in Reno at altitude.

By the way, Nevada also had a girl high jump 6-1.5 at the Regional meet a week ago. She's a sophomore. Look up Gabby Williams, Reed High School.

I don't know if he ran the 47.4 in a relay or from scratch (I said "at least split" because I didn't know if the rumored 47.4 I was thinking of was in a relay or open). Neither would surprise me.

But a 47.4 split isn't going to be a 49.x from scratch... probably closer to 48.1-48.5 depending on how smooth the handoff was (and assuming the coach knew how to take 400m splits).

Thanks, Nevada has had a few good athletes come through in the past decade for a state it's size!

Agreed. Although I disagree with the poster that said 47.4 to 9:28 range is unheard of. There have been many 1:50 or better 800 runners that could do this.

Seriously, I think many of the posts in this thread are from someone related to this kid. He ran very nice times. However, try running in the large state's meets where there are qualifying rounds for each of these events. Somehow I doubt his times would have been the same.

He will probably be a solid college runner, but I doubt college coaches ANYWHERE will be dropping everything this second. Geez.

Reminds me of Susan Nash from Ohio in the early 80s

She was the state xc champion in the fall (2.5 miles) and then won the 100, 400, 800, and ran on the winning 4x400 in the spring.

Cut this young HS kid some slack at the 1600 and 3200. The meet was held in Reno at 4500'.

Ok I MUST be missing something..... I live in western austalia and just ran a 8.45 at the age of 16 after starting running in early 2011....How on earth can a 9.3x win a state meet with 18 year olds! i come second in mine! is his state like uber puny or something?? (no knowledge on american states whatsoever)

Definately not trying to take away from the guy in question though, that 400m time is beast especially with his relatively good 3km time
