9th grader Alexa Efaimson (Camas, WA) ran 4:23 for an 11-second PR in Oregon yesterday, to best an elite field. This comes off her state-leading 2:08 last week.

Wow. Last year at this meet Cain ran 4:23.1 to set her first state record. She went on to run 4:17 at State. If she progresses the same amount this year, she's on track to run 4:11!! Crazy.
She really is progressing very nicely. This race at Somers was more or less a time trial to get the 4:17.00 provisional B standard for the OLY TRIALS. Second place in the race was 4:43 so she ran this 4:17.1 totally by herself. I think she is running an 800 in her next meet and believe she already has the qualifier of 2:05.90 for the trials 800. I was sorry to see her miss the 1500 standard by so little(especially running it solo)but I think it looks good that she will get it. Not sure what her coaches have in store, but a race in a good open competiton would surely help her along. Whatever happens this is just great stuff for us HS track and field fans!

A very nice run but for oly trials purposes it does not matter if she ran 4:17.1 or 4:16.8 neither of those times will get in the trials. I suspect it will take in the 4:12 to 4:13 range to have a chance and 2:03ish in the 800.

It's great to see the young rising stars.
As far as I can see the kid has been PRing all XC, indoor and now outdoors. Progresing nicely is an understatememt!
Mary Cain continues to impress (and progress), with a 4:16.52 solo 1500m effort at her State Qualifier meet.
Very impressive stuff. Excited to see what she can do at the State meet next week and when she eventually gets some competition! Her coach says she can go 4:12-4:13 right now...and I believe it.
Splits of 67.4, 72.5 (2:19.9), 70.6, and final 300m in 46.0. Again, a very quick close! Great speed
She is so young.....long way to go before getting excited. Many a youngin's for many reasons, just don't produce in the long run. Let's wish her well and her fleece be white as snow!

I was excited when I saw her run at the Millrose Games in the 8th grade so at this point in her career I am ecstatic! This is just great stuff for any TnF fan! I know a lot of people are wondering what the future holds for Mary but I say lets enjoy whats going on right NOW! Go get em Mary!
