I didn't say that I am betting on Rudisha - I'm not. I said that he is closest thing to something I would bet on. Read again, more slowly if it helps: "Rudisha in the 800 is probably the single gold I would be MOST likely to bet on."
There is no INDIVIDUAL I would bet on rather than him. He is the closest there is to a sure thing in all of the men's track events, without question. That doesn't mean he IS a sure thing, though.

Not to a sprinter, it didn't.
However, Bekele amazes me. The fluidity of the stride. Of course, the guy is a microbe--each of his legs must weigh no more than 20 lbs!
Regardless, there are plenty of other microbes who can't run anything like how Bekele runs. Absolutely beautiful.
IMHO this looked like a decent training run for him--he was doing something more than just jogging.
If Jeilan is anywhere close to his form and vigor of last year, I think that Bekele will need to be involved in a long kick in the 10,000m--as good as Bekele is over the last 400m, I think that Jeilan last year was a shade better--just better enough that if they are side-by-side starting the last 400, Jeilan could win.
What is a long kick in the 10,000? 2 laps? 600m? Does Bekele have what it takes to go a very fast last 2 or 3 laps? Is that kind of a strategy even doable, and would he have anybody else in the race to help him execute it?
This guy is amazing. So fluid. He's like an organic machine. I very much appreciate that he runs the 10,000m on the track, the hottest crucible of athletic running.

Even Bekele said in an interview he doesn't want to consider this to be a message to all his competitors and is waiting to see how he compares to them on the track, so we will find out in May if he is truly "back" in the sense that is important

Not exactly sure how his inability to break 12 from the blocks has to do with his opinions of distance races...
An a related note, do you really think that Coe would not be able to break 12 from blocks? I won't pretend to know the first thing about sprinting but iirc correctly he ran 400m in like 45.xx seconds. This would mean he could probably run at least under 11 in the same conditions of starting for 100m as he had in his 400m's. Do the blocks really slow a non-sprinter athlete down by that much?

maybe kiprop in the 1500 is still a likely gold, but not by much - a championship 1500 is much luck - I would never bet on that race.
Steeplechase and 800m would seem like very good bets for Kenyan gold.

if they're blood testing well then nobody is the favorite. but you simply can't catch people with in-competition testing very often because it's cleared their system.
