Galen Rupp in Marathon Trials

I'm going to Rupp it up if he wins the marathon trials! This guy is unbelievable, and is finally bringing inspiration to American distance running. Let's all get behind this guy (you too match) and we can all Rupp it up in London together.

Fair enough if Rupp wins the trials I'll stop constructively critiquing him.

He does not need to make the team at the 26.2 distance..when he will easily make the team at 5k and 10k... he is just learning how to compete internationally at 5k and 10k and doesn't need to move up in distance now and hinder hie performances on the track...I say he does not complete the 26.2 in HOUSTON and a wise move to put off his 26.2 debut until after 2012 Olympic Games

This will be very interesting, adds some serious intrigue to a mens trials race that honestly was shaping up to be fairly boring in comparison to the womens race.

No. Rupp is free to race/qualify in any and all events he is capable of.

I'm just loving the fact that rupp is the big baddazz US distance runner right now - strike one for the socially awkward distance runner type.

For what it's worth - I would be very surprised if rupp runs the trials, but I actually think he should - and also in London. I don't see him medalling in the 10k without a 52 second last lap...and he hasn't shown that. but in a marathon...I could see him throwing down a 4:30 at just the right time to win.

to WIN? You're joking. Rupp has no chance against Makau and Mutai and Kirui.

Hall, Meb, Ritz, Rupp and many others in the marathon. Sounds like the best marathon team ever assembled for the USA.

Rupp will have a long career and 2012 is just the start. He'll probably focus on the 10k for now, but who knows.

From the 5k-Marathon, from HS through the Olympics, Rupp may be the greatest runner of all time... but only time will tell.

I don't think he is awkward in anyway. In fact, he seems to have better balance than almost any US runner that I have watched over the last few decades.

Nothing about Rupp suggests drug use. He was one of our fastest high schoolers ever, but it was nothing so outrageous to make us think drugs in high school. Others have and will run faster than he did for the mile and 2-mile, and his 5k HS record is within range of a number of other athletes. If Gerry Lindgren could figure this stuff out by trial and error in the 60's, is it crazy that another kid with a world class coach could manage to run slightly faster decades later? No, that's not crazy. He had a terrific but not shocking high school career, then went to the mother of all distance running programs, has never lost significant time to injury, has kept the same coach for years who knows him really, really well. His career progression is totally logical.

Lots of people have run sub-26:50...it's not ridiculous to think that finally an American is one of them. In fact, it's way overdue, there should be 10 Rupps every year in the U.S. by now given our population and resources. The guy is most likely clean.

If Ed Moran can run 2:11 in New York, Rupp can run 2:09 in Houston and make the top 3.

It ain't likely - but I'm betting Rupp is a 2:05 marathoner. In a championship, non paced marathon you think he can't beat a 2:04 guy? Marathon isn't like track races - many more variables and much of it comes down to who has a good day. Rupp is on a huge roll and has all the momentum in the world.

Why is Rupp socially awkward? Everything I've ever read about him it sounds like he has plenty of friends.
