How cold do you wear shorts??

i'll wear shorts until it gets in the 20s. then i'll wear tights. i dont wear shorts over tights, but i dont really see the problem with doing so.

Sorry I had a typo there. I am not in elementary school, like I said before, I am 27. Also, like I said before I just want to help the young guys out so they don't show up to a run with their college teammates looking ridiculous. Hopefully I have helped out someone out, I don't expect to change the world.

Depends on the run, but if it is just an easy training run I will be in tights and a jacket anywhere under 55 or so.

The trend at this moment - I work at Big 10 school - is half tights with t-shirts or longsleeve tech shirts. I've also seen the team wearing full tights with t-shirts.

Only in the summer do I see the guys wearing split shorts.

If you don't like the look of tights, wear running pants, never wear shorts over your tights, when you get to college (i assume you are in HS) you college teammates will make fun of you for wearing that.

Let me ask you this: What's more gay? Doing something like wearing tights, splits, flip-fops, skinny-jeans, knee-high socks, pink, wife-beaters, headphones, a mustache, dyed hair, and/or whatever else you 7th graders think makes you appear something other than manly (god forbid)

If it's cold outside and you run in shorts because you like it, fine. If it's cold and you run in tights because it makes a heck of a lot of sense, good for you. Wow, 27. What a shocker. I would have guessed you to be at least 28 with that kind of wisdom.

Once it goes below freezing, I'll throw pants on, like sporthills. Not quite tights, not quite sweat pants. Though for fast running I'll still wear short in sub-zero temps. Why would you want to go for an easy long run on a freezing cold day in nothing but shorts? Thats just dumb.

Mine don't either. In fact, a lot of the time I find that I stay warmer in shorts rarther than long pants because I overheat in the longs and sweat a lot which invariably ends up making me colder when I run into a cold wind.

Functionality: I wear shorts under my tights. If it gets warm I can take my tights off and be comfortable, if it gets cold again I can put the tights back on. What are you going to do if it warms up and you have shorts over your tights?

Heh - that's actually how I run -- did my tempo today in 32 degrees -- wore tank top, shorts, heavy gloves (plus handwarmers), and big warm headband.

And yes, if you have circulatory problems, then your legs and torso are quite possibly a different temperature from your extremities. I have Raynauds, and start wearing gloves when it drops below 50; mittens+handwarmers when it's below 45. But my torso and legs still overheat, and so tights or long sleeved shirt for a workout is miserable after the first 5 minutes or so. It's not a toughness thing or a showing off thing; it's just what works for me. (heck - if I was tough or showing off, I wouldn't be wearing gloves+handwarmers+socks on my hands).

In response to the original question: for workouts or races, I wear shorts down to about 30 degrees; very light tights below that. For very easy runs, I may put on tights when it drops below 40.

Can I wear flannel button ups with my shorts?

The coldest was 15 degrees. My legs went numb and when I got back inside they itched insanely for about an hour.

Tights are acceptable for serious runners (i.e. college runners not including 16min 5k wannabes, or a serious road racer). Otherwise you people training to break 16min for 5k, no tights.

Also I guarantee that you people ragging on tights are all hobby joggers so stfu because I don't give a $hit what you have to say about running.

I like to wear close fitting running pants instead of tights - anything under 35F. 35F - 40F is the gray zone, depends on the wind and sun.

Compression shorts are clutch for racing, I wore them for 5M at 17F and was fine.

I think any thing under 45 is compression short worthy, obviously not wearing shorts over it.

Damn bro slow guys aren't allowed to be warm? Guess I'll throw out my tights and get back on the treadmill.
