Also, it is Vandy's 6 and 7 that determines the race between Arkansas and Florida and Vandy's #5 is faster than the average for the other teams, so at NCAAs they will be further ahead

Tight races for 2nd and 3rd in bot men's and women's races.
Vanderbilt was 3rd or 4th last year and maybe 4th or 5th the year before. They have been getting better.
I really think this was a must win meet for that program to show they deserve to be in the discussion as one of the best teams in the south eastern US, whether its ACC or SEC.

theres got to be more to it than that. In the spring there is country music half/marathon, and plenty of other races to run in tennessee. Ivy and D3 runners don't need scholarships to run fast.

Yes, people are going to go run at Vandy so they can run the Country Music Half Marathon. Come on man.
You're right that Ivy and D3 don't need scholarships, but show me a single team that is good in either of those divisions that does not also sponsor track and field. Vandy does not have a men's track and field team. They don't sponsor it as an NCAA sport, so they certainly don't fund it. These XC runners cannot even represent Vandy at meets. At least at a decent D3 school you get XC, indoor, and outdoor track seasons.
I was an assistant coach for a while at a smaller school. This was the set-up. The women's team was and still is good. They have a full track team, which has produced national qualifiers and even one national champion. The men's team is made up of a couple doofuses from ROTC and some hobby joggers. It's really sad.
