To answer your question though, doping does not help horses to run faster.

For what it's worth, I saw a syringe floating in the porta-john before the women's marathon. Pretty appalling thing to see in my first international competition.

Doping definitely is an issue in horse racing. In fact, the fellow who is the lead owner of the horse that won the Kentucky Derby has been a long-term critic of the practices that are legal in some states (Lasix?). He happens to be a long-term track and filed aficionado, by the way, and posts on te Track and Field News board under Mr. Bowie, I think.

doubt a syringe hold enough blood no matter how packed, to do much good. The prerace heat would clot it with out some cooling container wouldn't it.

I'm sure the drug savy posters will pipe up on this.

Probably a very high percentage of Americans believe that drugs work. Americans are bombarded with drug ads on tv and the internet 24/7. Americans think they need drugs to sleep, to wake up, to digest food, to pee, crap, and whoever knows what else. This attitude has been promoted to the Americans and other countries (Britain etc) for more than a century.

This does not mean that drugs help people to run any faster, but simply that most Americans believe that they do. Old habits die hard. It's a belief that is false.

Seems like everyone should know that you would not inject your own (refrigerated) blood back into yourself minutes before a race in the port-o-john by yourself.

I guess the question is what WOULD someone be injecting into himself/herself in a Porta-John before a race?

It seems like if it was drugs, they would still be in your system by the end of the race, and I assume if you place you know you will be tested.
