I wonder if this will shut up the people who thought adam was done bacause of long term epo use.

This is a pretty decent run for Adam. When you have been out of the game for over 2 years, you don't come back looking to hit a home run...he got on base. Unfortunately for Adam, the landscape has changed over the last over last couple years and there are at least dozen guys capable of running better than 1:04x.

Why on earth would he need to "put in a monster base without getting injured between now and then"??

I dunno, I think if I were Adam Goucher, out of commission for more than 2 years but with dreams of qualifying for Trials, I'd show up to Philly and do the absolute minimum required to hit that sub-1:05 QT. He knows he's injury-prone, he knows the expectations are against him, he knows he has nothing to gain from placing well in this Competitor-sponsored PDR circus, all he has to do is get in, qualify, and get out. He did the job well and I think it's a real mark of maturity that he's able to hit even splits and not get caught up in racing--remember Running with the Buffaloes?

Even if he doesn't make the Olympic team, he has shown, at least today, he's improved by heaps. It isn't always about running fast.

I love having a wild card like Goucher in the trials race. Although I'm sure it drives him nuts to have so many people ahead of him. Hope he doesn't overdo it in training.

It is so interesting that when someone states a fact as Malmo did on this site , a young punk spews his youthful stupidity with a emotional rant.

Not sure if Barnicle is planning to run the full or not, but he's is one of the most talented runners in the US never talked about. Hope he stays injury free for a while!

His chances aren't that bad? Is that what you said? Look at how many US runners have run "close to that time" for the half and rethink things. A chance, sure, but not that bad? Ritz will be there, count on it. Adam's chances are not impossible, but also not very good, not to mention that he has to train for the marathon and stay healthy.

In terms of how many times it took to break 2:11 to make the team, well weather played a big role in some of those results. Trials were in May for many of those and heat played a role, like it or not. Rod's 2:15 in Pittsburg were brutal conditions, to name one.

Congrats to Adam for breaking 1:05 but he's got a lot of work ahead of him to even be in contention at 20 miles.

WR for women is 2:15 remember so yea you can qualify for the men's oly trials by running a female's pace.

I know you said "at least", but come on. That is the understatement of the year.

I count 78 different performers on that list (not performances), and that is not updated after yesterday.

I'm happy for Adam, and I suppose it's impossible to say how controlled he was yesterday. But a marathon is even more of a stretch than a half. If he finishes in the top 20 at the trials, then that will be impressive.

Yes, Goucher has Pure Red Cell Aplasia from prolonged EPO use.

And he still is "done". 1:05 might be great for a DIII runner, it isn't gonna cut it for an elite marathoner.

I wonder if he gave anyone the finger today as he crossed the line, like he promised in an earlier interview. And I wonder who he'll be flipping off when he DNF's in the trials.

Because, that's what it will take for him to be remotely competitive at the trials. Part of the base can include plenty of alter G underwater running. That can constitute his two-a-days.

He had a screw sticking into a joint in his foot, put there to 'solve' a stress fracture (I think it was metatarsal). Running with a screw in a joint is not good for you.

The screw was fixed (after two years they finally figured out what the problem was). He was able to start running after two years. He runs an OTQ in his first race in more than two years.

Go Adam. He's done nothing to deserve any of this hate (excepting take away your dreams of Kara, I suppose).
