Everyone here proclaiming all the negativity towards banditting has done it themselves at one point in time or another.
I have won a handful of races banditting, however, I did not ever go through the chute. Its all about common sense. Learn to blend in. Dont be in the front at the start unless you are off to the side. Dont push and shove. Run like you know what you are doing. Do not cross the finish, but rather pull off to the side with 1-200 to go. Do not get the free food and drinks. At least bring your own.
There are reasons why some people bandit some of the time. Could be they are out of shape and wish not to have such a slow time recorded that which is essentially a glorified training run. Perhaps they are just scraping by.
There are plenty of overweight married men and women coming with their kids and pushing strollers whom have real jobs and the aptitude to pay the 35$ fee (x4) in this era of running we are in (where races are more of a social event.) A handful of bandits do not bother me, they have a reason for it and as long as they use common sense, it ain't hurtin' nobody.
