Yong-Sung Leal returns!

College isn't just for people that recently graduated high school. It's a luxury to be able to go college immediately after high school.

And if anything he's had less training experience than most of the top guys so don't hate on his age in that way either.

I wasn't hating on his age... he would have dominated NCAAs as an 18 year old frosh as well... he is the man no matter what his age is. I'm just glad he's back running.

I don't think we should get too excited and call him the next threat to Rupp. We should just let him be and let him start training slowly. He is very injury-prone and is cautiously taking babysteps back into running (as he should.)

I hope for the best and will be looking for news.

Keep in mind that rupp ran 28:15 as a teenager with a 13:4x close, running alone.

^^Yes but Galen Rupp was running 3-4 times the mileage of YSL without much interruption at all. Yong-Sung Leal is far more talented than Galen Rupp, who in his own right is one of the best American runners ever no doubt. But if YSL stays healthy Rupp and the other Americans are going to be an afterthought. He is that good. Think mid-26s in 2015.

The comparison with Rupp is actually kinda interesting because if I recall correctly they are pretty close in age and ran similar times as 10th graders (an age where cumulative training hasnt had much time to set in). THe difference of course is that Rupp has now had a decade in uninterrupted training and is poised to break 13 and 27 soon. What has me, and many here, interested, however, is that what Rupp lacks in manliness, moxy, toughness, street cred, etc., Leal has in spades. So can balls make up for 10 years of training? I think so...

NO. You're talking about TEN YEARS of training. YSL wouldn't just need to 'get back in shape' he would need to train his body. In a year or two he can get to high 27s but for someone injury-prone, he is going to need more years of training than just a season or two.

You need to shut the hell up. YSL won't need "2 years" to hit high 27s he's probably close to that already right now. As for the Rupp comparisons they are apt, because he and YSL has similar HS times, re difference being that YSL is a real man, and Rupp is well quite less than this.

A YSL resurgence is exactly what this sport needs... I just hope he can pick up a sponsorship so he can begin to focus on training. He is so talented that he may only need to get to 60-70 mpw to take down Rupp.

I guess you guys are starting to realize the genius of Alberto Salazar. What is the common denominator amongst the has-beens like YSL, Withrow (Schumacher), Fernandez, etc... they didn't have Alberto Salazar as a Coach like Galen Rupp does.

YSL compared to Clint Eastwood is what Rupp is to Richard Simmons.

YSL is going to murder every distance runner in the world next year. I had heard that the comeback was hopefully fully on a couple months ago from one of my friends, we were freshman at a different HAAL school when YS was a senior. Will be following his progress very intently.
