I'm sure Solinksky knows more about Salazar and Rupp than the rest of us combined. And we all know that Rupp/Salazar bring the drama wherever they go, otherwise there wouldn't be the "Rupp Certified" meme on these boards. It doesn't mean that Rupp isn't tough or his allergy problems aren't real - but he and Salazar are persnickety mofos.

What you didn't see was Rupp, dazed and deflated on the infield beginning to walk FURTHER into the infield, and Jerry physically turning him around and guiding him toward Solinsky.

That particular video does not show it, but Galen only shook his hand after he walked off the track and Alberto told him to go back and congratulate Chris. I'm not saying that Galen should have been excited and congratulated him, but it was not his decision.
Here is the deal. Salazar and Rupp are both babies. They are mad that Jerry and Wisconsin West are kicking their behinds. I'm sure the fact that Mo ripped off a great time has them upset as well as it's stealing Galen's Thunder. Alberto and Phil both want Galen to be the guy breaking the records and winning the races(see the filming of Galen's attempt to break the AR at Stanford, and ask the right people). The fact that Nike hasn't jumped on Solinsky with a shoe commercial tells you this. I mean come on, Chris is the kid next door and has the story to back it, perfect for a running commercial. Jerry and his crew were brought there to elevate the running scene in Eugene and elevate it they did, too much for what Alberto was planning on originally when recruiting Jerry. So now there is a civil war, the question is how long before Jerry is sick of it and gets out of dodge. My guess is they'll stay through the Olympic games and then get out of there. If I were Adidas right now I'd approach Jerry and ask him what it would take to get his entire crew to pack up and sign with Adidas. Can you imagine his entire crew wearing Adidas uniforms going to Hayward field handing it to Salazar and Rupp? By the way, my guess is that Mo won't last long with Salazar either if he keeps taking Rupp's fame:-) It's really unfortunate because right now US distance running is at it's height, and some people aren't professional enough to not make a fool of themselves by acting like a 5 year old spoiled brat. See the Stanford meet when Solinsky broke the US record at 10,000 meters.
I can't see how people can stand up for rupp. Most posters don't but those who do I just can't understand. Dudes a face for nike, since forever. Solinsky is a real man, doin it right, the best face for american distance running. If there was a real rivalry, rupp wouldnt be able to handle it. I watched that youtube video, Its a shame he had to be physically led to solinsky for that weak ass hand shake and quick turn face. real men are judged by how they act in adversity (not when the coins are stacked in their favor at some big time meet in europe). A lot can be said about a person for how they act when you lose. Solinsky's interview was really telling, he was earnestly disappointed and I can tell he'll go train even harder and run faster after this.
The bad blood started back in 2007 in college when Rupp outkicked Solinsky in a 5k at hayward, suprised him right at the line and Solinsky fell flat on his face.
Who cares about the bad blood. It's good for competitiveness. It's a lot easier to fight in a race if you hate the guts of the person next to you and can't stand letting them win.
i remember that race. rupp ran very well and had it at the end, which has always been something he's been criticized for--lack of pure speed.
it is extra sad when you watch other runners like Chelanga actually walk over to rupp bent over and pat him on the back. Such a class act. That's a guy who was outkicked by Rupp at NCAA XC champs.
what pissed me off was how many people bagged on CSOL for riding Galen to the AR. that was such a bogus claim. For starters it was his first ever 10,000. nobody bagged Mo for sittin in the back for so long. Solinksy bolted with 900 to go and he was pushing up on Galen with 1200 to go. He itched sooo bad and sprung. Pointless recap, but worth notin that it's rupp who seems has nightmares of Solinksy's arms in victory.

A great rivalry would actually race against each other. Ovett and Coe painfully avoided such races for years. Great athletes but they should have raced each other a hell of a lot more.

Entrance to watch the distance events at the Pre Classic that evening were FREE. And if spectators were actually so disappointed in not seeing Rupp run that they felt they wasted their time, they're not real fans of the sport. The race was going to be competitive and impressive, and worth watching, with or without the Americans.

If you are implying that Solinsky blamed Rupp's DNS for his own DNF then you are mistaken. He dropped out because he had a hamstring injury. He clearly states this in the post race interview. This should surprise nobody. When he set the AR in the 10k last year he nearly dropped out because his hamstring was acting up. He only stayed in because mid-race it started to feel better. Hamstring injuries tend to linger / come & go so this shouldn't surprise anybody.
Now, you can make the argument that he entered the race with the intentions of defending his record (which would be awesome) and decided not to risk further injury when Rupp did not even start, but you are putting words in Solinsky's mouth by implying that he is blaming anything on Rupp.
