You ever see the photo of Pre and Lindgren
duking it out in NCAA CC? Together they were waaaayyy
ahead of the rest of the pack and they would be further
ahead of the pack if they were to run today.
Pre and Lindgren would be pwned by Galen Rupp and Chelanga, Pre (Soph college to death) would be dropped to distant 3rd, Lindgren would be lucky to finish top 5.
Will Lukas break 8:40? I highly doubt it for a few reasons. One would be that Lukas has a tendency to take the race out way faster than he needs to hoping to hang on. His splits at the Illinois state meet when he went for Virgin's record were ambitious to say the least. Whether he actually has the ability to in a perfect race is unknown, but based on his comfortable 4:03 indoors last weekend, I can see how one would make the argument that he can break 8:40
And what's this about overracing? Did any of you follow Lukas in the cross country season? He barely raced at all. Now that he finally has a steady schedule, we call him out on overracing? Give me a break.
what time does the 2 mile start, and is there a feed anyhwere?

Ryun beat Lindgren in the 1968 NCAA indoor two mile, the only NCAA championship event Lindgren entered and did not win.

to jimji- did Gerry Lindgren ever run against Jim Ryun? if so, what was the outcome? I see photos of Pre, Shorter, Lindgren together but none of those two. I know in Lindgrens book he spoke how they were racing towards who would break the 4 min. barrier first but thats it.

Well according to the mcmillan calculator, 4:04 is worth an 8:40. So I gotta think it's possible for him. He has the mile PR, and probably the best endurance out of any of the recent high schoolers who have run 4:03-4:04ish recently. I gotta think it's within grasp, but it all depends how the race plays out for HIM. There's going to be a fast pace set and Lukas might not have many people to run with.
Doesn't mean much. Webb went under 4:00 for the mile in HS, but could do no better than 8:45 for the 2. I think the best we'll see from Lukas is between 8:45 - 8:50. Still, that's not shabby.
My take on it wrote:
I think he could get it, especially since he ran 4:03.88 as a rust buster. It should be a better track than what Lindgren had as well.
Webb and Hunt ran faster and neither of them could do it. What makes you think that Lukas is any better?

I'll give you a reason. His experience with cycling and swimming may have given him a little better endurance.
That said, I predicted an 8:48.50 in another thread, so I don't think he'll do it. And he'll get lapped by Lagat which is not good.
Lucas looked like he was in over his head with that 4:03. Maybe it was the indoor track or just that day. He didn't look strong to me. Maybe I should watch again.
I don't expect big things in this race but I would love to be surprised.
when is this????
In 5 minutes, but my stream isn't working. Can someone post splits?
Lukas has his own pacer. Lulz
4:08 for Lagat at the mile
4:14 for verzbikas
music in the background?
what is this music
6:10 lagat
6:28 verzbikas
that goddam music sucks
I had been watching the meet for an hour with no issue, then 60 seconds into the 2 mile it craps out. Appears to be down down.
8:43 lukas
8:10 for Lagat.
8:43 for Verzbicas.
