Most blatant NCAA violations you witnessed your school get away with?

Late 80s. Big Ten School. Property manager of my apartment finds out we're cross country runners. Makes joke about us actually paying our rent every month. Turns out he managed another property rented by basketball players who never paid their rent. When the property manager informed the property owner (who must have been a booster), he was told "Don't worry about collecting rent from that apartment."

Excellent parody of somebody who lacks the capacity to think at all and is also so insecure about the sport which he competes in that he fabricates lies about it in hopes of convincing himself that it's cool or popular.

One day, during the indoor track season, after the semester was well underway, my coach came up to me and informed me I was getting a half scholarship (until this point I was a walk-on, but had become the 2nd best runner on the team), but not to ask any questions. I had already paid my school fees, but a couple of weeks later, I received a reimbursement check for what my scholarship had retroactively paid for.

I never asked any questions, but was always very curious how this happened, any ideas? This was a D1 program.

to truly qualify as a "pro," she needed to have actually made some prize money. she never did, therefore your example falls as flat as you do coming off the treadmill. were you the weightlifter chump in that thread?

I went on a recruiting trip to Illinois. The assistant coach got us into the bar without id's. Then he was giving us 20's to go buy drinks, and never wanted the change back. We got pretty blitzed that night.

A walk on "high" jumper from England--who got in into one of the best academic schools in the country through the front door--only had two years of math in high school.

Apparently it was an NCAA violation. The other conference coaches waited until after he had jumped at conferences and then tried to have our whole team forfeit.

Are sexual favors from an assistant coach OK if he's just a volunteer?

I shopped my son Cam about a year ago. Mississippi State offered 180k for him. We sent Cam to Auburn for much more than that.

We got caught a few months ago. Good thing the NCAA is corrupt or we wouldn't have gotten off the hook.

Going to stink when Cam has to take a pay cut playing in the NFL next year.

Title 9 could be easily fixed by not counting football into the "numbers." The bottom line is their is no women's football team or equivalent. Also football makes the university and NCAA so much money I honesty think they should have more scholarships and budgets. This is not fair to the "lesser" sports.

Take football out of the equation, let them make and spend their money. Even out all the other sports... That's the solution.

Sprinter on my team got his house broken into two years ago. He had just run amazing at a very high level meet at the end of the summer. He had the opportunity to go pro and make big bucks (well big bucks for a sprinter, not football) He decied to stay. But after his house got broken into he told the Coach he was gonna go pro because he was sick of not having any money. So the coach went out and bought him a 52 inch plasma that cost over a Grand.

At the JUCO I went to for my first two years.. Several guys including me would go on trips and come back with nice fleece or pair of running shoes that were "dropped on the ground" I only took a fleece cause it was cold outside at the football game and I "forgot" to give it back.

My buddy told me he won an xc meet and had a 100 dollar handshake from the main booster for the track team....

My Jr college was very strict about following the rules. My D1 was very strict about the rules minus the TV incident.

And I guess this is a violation of rules. On both teams both of my coaches would Pray at our Monday Meetings. Both of them always said if you don't feel comfortable you are welcome to leave before hand. Nobody ever did

There was an article a few years ago in Sports Illustrated that said the Ohio State football players had scholarships plus all of their food and entertainment expenses were paid for (i.e. movies, video games). And they got $1400 a month on top of that as an "expense allowance." for 10 months of the year.

This was despite the fact they had no reasonable expenses that were not covered by their scholarships. The team paid for a movie the night before every game, had team playstations, etc, pool tables for football players use only, and more.

I would guess other major football schools are similar since they all want to be competitive with each other.
