By that logic the Texas Rangers also don't exist.

You are too old for the MArines, they will chew you up and spit you out if you don't throw yourself out of a window first, I seen gangbangers, ninjas street fighters crack smokers high jumpers line backers and candlestick makers get broken down by the DIs.
Haha, just kidding.
Seriously though, one issue that is sort of implicit in many of the above posts saying that any branch EXCEPT the marines is the one you is that somehow you have to be f.ucking crazy or want to be swept up into a cult that owns you in order to be a Marine. From what I understand, Marine OCS assumes from the start that candidates are past the ultra-malleable adolescent stage of their lives and have no interest in being condescended to or indoctrinated in the way enlisted grunts are. This is to say, while OCS is extremely tough, both mentally and physically, you are treated as an adult who wants to lead marines, not like some punk ass kid who is too stupid to care about what he is dying for.
To become an officer in the Marines, I believe, is more streamlined than that of the Army.
I had a marine recruiter come to my college and offered an "internship" to go to OCC for 10 weeks, and have the option to continue or back out after the ten weeks (become a second lieutenant or go back to being a civilian.) I was going to do this but I did not want to get stuck with infantry, if that is where they placed me.
So I looked at the army and wanted to join OCS, but I also wanted an Intel job. So I enlisted in the army (3 days ago, I swore in) for an intel job. I scored 119 on my GT portion of the ASVAB (110 needed for OCS). So after my AIT training I will put a packet together for OCS. I mainly enlisted first so I could work an intel job and get that experience (and not be a greenhorn, but someone with 2 years of experience. Plus I go in the rank of Specialist, and maybe if I do well enough I will be promoted to Sergent by the time OCS comes about.)

Great insight. The way you wrote it was oddly inspiring and awesome.

Being a Mustang sounds great, but the money is way better off-the-bat as an officer. When I become an officer I am going to respect my enlistees, especially the Gunnery Sergeants. Some of these men are going to be in their 30s and have been defending the USA for over a decade. If I was in their position, I would be weary of some 22YO 2nd Lieutenant too.
All the tough talk reminded me of this joke/story/epicness:
F18 in Iranian Airspace..
In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all
aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defence
Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace.
The following conversation was heard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz.
Iranian Air Defence Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'
US Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'
Air Defence Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'
US Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait.'
Air Defence Radar: (total silence)
No I understand what you are saying. I just felt I would rather make sure i got my MOS and my training (my job requires me to train for 52 weeks, so my service will be 5 year commitment) and then after I will go to OCS (crossing my fingers) and still have the three year commitment needed without extending my contract or anything.
If no one mentioned it yet see your campus recruiter or look up Armed Forces Recruiting Station in the phone book or on the inderwebz then find the one closest to you and visit.
Really not officer material if you have to ask here.

Trust me I am using every resource at my disposal. Letsrun allowed me to informally communicate with people who are in the military. That was its purpose.

Carlos Rey is from Torrance CA and was in the Air Force. He changed hs name to Chuck Norris for the movies.
The old US infantry is now a civilian police type of organization with MBAs doing risk assesment and personnel management to limit casualties per Congress and Pentagon thresholds.
Marines haven't tortured recruits since the 1970s. Marine Sergeants don't beat the crap out of Butter Bars any more. Pentagon risk managers don't put Marines in risky wars anymore since the American people only want police actions, not wars of attrition.

Do you think GPA, D1 athlete, prestigious school, etc. matters ? The US is trying to impose it's will upon Middle East people and steal their homes and farms to give to Holocaust descendants. Those people have lived where there for at least 7,000 years of rtecorded histiory. That's more than 5000 years before Islam. They're absolutely fanatical fighters who will die in droves to protect their homeland from US Army and US Marine infantry soldiers. They have so many volunteers of all ages. They won't give a damn what your GPA is when they slice your balls off and post the video on youtube.com.
I am a senior at a fairly prestigious school, have a 3.65 GPA (Economics with Math Minor), and a DI athlete. I am interested in becoming an Infantry Officer in either the Army or Marine Corps. I haven't done ROTC (because of athletic commitments) but I am looking into attending OCS/OCC.
My biggest fear is not receiving a commission in the infantry and getting stuck with a desk job after Basic Training and OCS/OCC (possibly Ranger school).
Insight into OCS/OCC for both Army and Marine Corps would be extremely helpful. Any additional info for both branches is encouraged.
I have also browsed military forums and read on the selectivity of infantry officers.
Thanks.
Infantry Officer,
I've am looking into becoming an officer. Decided on marines and hoping to get into OCC this June. You should definitely pick up the book "One Bullet Away" by Nathaniel Fick. It details the progress of becoming an infantry then later recon officer from occ and through the basic school. I found it really insightful. Good luck!

Its good to hear there are other runners like myself who are looking to serve in the military. Good luck to you as well! Our paths may converge someday!
Prediction:
"Infantry Officer" will not become an officer in any branch of the military.
2nd Prediction:
The poor guy who after paying for college was somehow talked into enlisting vs. OCS (that is one hell of a recruiting job) will not become an officer in any branch of the military. That plan is a classic Army recruiting move, and I feel really really bad for the kid, and want to kick the recruiter's fat Army ass right now.
3rd Prediction:
The one guy who has been posting under multiple names telling Infantry Officer to join any other service, other than the Marines, is laughing his balls off. And will not become and officer in any branch of the military.
Since i went to MEPs this past mon/tues be prepared for when you go...Its long, boring and the slightest thing wrong with u can set you back. Recruiters always tell you to say NO...so do it. Even if they scare you at MEPs saying how you will go to prison if you lie. Just stay confident that you never broke anything, or never had asthma, etc

I hope you weren't lying and going into Intel. You know they do background medical checks when you eventually try to get your TS. If you have something like asthma on your record, good chance they will find it. If you don't have it documented, different story.
Kid from my town just got sent back during the middle of BCT for lying on his medical.
Than I am probably effed beyond belief. Isnt the Top Secret more for criminal than for medical? Plus isnt their medical laws, like doctor-patient confidence?
I might be royally screwed if they find out, who knows.
Did he just get booted from the army? Dishonorable discharge? Jail time?
4th Prediction:
Blizzardo marries Nate Burkus after graduation.
