Webb and teammates receiving illegal benefits while still in high school?

I have no reason to hate on South Lakes, I just read the article recently and it had occurred to me that there might be a violation. I posted on here to find out and apparently everyone is very protective of someone they would quickly turn around and insult his next bad race.

There are tons of different rules and regulations that change depending on the season, etc.

From the one handbook thingy or w/e I just looked up:

Students entering college or continuing with it can accept prizes up to the cost of racing there while over the summer. So transportation, food, lodging, thats ok.

In season tho, they can't accept that stuff.

For high school, it seems that it would follow similar lines, but it doesn't actually state it, just says that a high schooler should be informed of risking their amateur status etc.

So since it was in-season, it might be considered illegal, if that part applies. If the summer rule applied then it would probably be ok because you could even say that sellig nthe hat coudl pay for part of the transportatio nor soemthing because it also says during the season you cant accept stuff that can be sold, which implies that taking an item that could be sold can coutn as going toward part of expenses.

And this is just for big stuff. Imagine all the small, local road races where high schoolers frequently accept prizes. I took some stuff one time, but that was during the summer so it should be ok because it didn't even cover the entry fee. Oh shit, another time I took a frozen turkey home. Im screwed. Eff the rules. As long as kids arent getting large cash prizes, who cares.

So is anyone going to send this article to the challenge or should I?

I don't think anyone is being protective of Webb. I think they're (rightly) criticizing you for bringing up an a long ago done deal because it MIGHT have violated some insignificant technical interpretation of a rule that you weren't even sure existed.

You didn't look up any of the rules yourself, unless the guy who posted the rules was you under a different name. You didn't produce anything constructive. You just "called out" a team for watching an athlete make history and allegedly getting a free meal out of it.

When people informed you how stupid your concern was, you got all idiotic and started "well, I'm just saying, there might have been a violation. Guess everyone wants to protect Webb."

There's nothing to protect him from. You're the one being an idiot. I could care less if Webb ever runs another race again, and in a race with other Americans, I'll cheer for them over him-- but none of that changes the fact that you're a nitpicking moron who probably has some kind of agenda.

The problem isn't that he took the baseball cap, it was the fact that he then turned around and exchanged it for that Chinese character he has tattooed on his arm.

I realize that you're a little flustered because I ruffled your feathers a little bit, but if I really wanted to try to ruin Alan Webb I would've went straight to the VHSL. It is people like you calling me names and attacking me for something I had nothing to do with. I was just asking a question and judging by your reaction, it appears that you have an agenda to protect Webb...violation or not.

as i said earlier in this thread. i was on that south lakes team. we did not go up to the armory to watch the race so there was no way that 26 members of our team got free stuff since they weren't there. end of story.
