No, you are stupid! I was referring to Wetmore's letter to Scott Douglas' article. Please stop, you are digging a hole for yourself. You are not getting it...I wasn't referring to the article as "not classless" I was referring to Wetmore's letter to the editor.

you can see that there is an obvious remedy.

I would guess that someone other than Coach Wetmore evaluates Coach Burroughs, e.g. the AD or asst. AD etc.

Recently, the son of the football coach (Hawkins) was the QB. sometimes first string, sometimes second.

Obviously some conflict of interest there too.

Is that true? 10+ years together would mark them as a couple right around her last year on the team, right? Is there any way this is just a rumor/speculation, or can anyone confirm that they actually live together? I'm just curious.

That would be a case of a nearby rival school's coach (Colorado School of Mines in Goldon, CO) taking cheap shots at Coach Wetmore on Letsrun.com. I did read the policy, and that's why I said there must be some kind of special arrangement, such as having someone other than Wetmore evaluate her. The relevant part of the policy (point #2 under section A) just says that the evaluative relationship must be terminated, it doesn't really spell out specifics.

Regardless, it's still an unusual situation, since having someone outside the team (like an assistant AD) evaluate one of the assistant coaches would seem to be hard to do, esp. without asking the head coach. And even more difficult for an outsider to supervise an assistant coach.

From a university's point of view, that's completely different since it's not between two employees.

You're ignorant. Johnson has helped both Vaughns, both Renee Metivier-Baillie and her husband Austin, and Tyler McCandless to plenty of success. You'd have to have actually paid attention to have known that.

looks like your the ignorant one as Renee has had more recent success without Jay (win at USATF Club xc). Tyler McCandless is a 2:17 marathoner so not exactly anything to brag about. What success other than a 3rd place half marathon finish has he had with mr vaughn, I haven't seen any 13:18s lately like i did when he was at CU. 1 good race doesn't make anyone a success. Taking someone who has run 13:18 to run a 62 min half marathon is not coaching success. I will agree that he has done a good job with Sara but that is about all I can see.

Seven years is spot on. And the legal point isn't the significant one, although if the arrangement goes bad the legal aspects will take on significance.

Nepotism is simply a significant problem. It consistently gives off the wrong appearances (even if everyone involved is doing fine and professional job), and creates constant conflict between and among other employees. It makes the athletic department a less desirable place to work.

From the outside, Wetmore seems to be a really talented and accomplished coach who deserves in general more flexibility than most (he has earned it), but not on this issue. These arrangements rarely work out well.

A few years ago, some girl who ran for Duke ripped Kevin Jermyn in Running Times and Running Times did not get a counter response from him in the article..Articles should show both sides of the story when contoversial comments come up, and then let the readers decide...and if the other side refuses comment, then that should be stated in the article as well...

If you can't even handle the difference between "your" and "you're" then more complex things are surely beyond your mental limits. Winning USATF Club XC Champs is certainly not better than winning the 3000m at indoor nationals last year. Nor is it better than her best finish at World Cross.

Tyler clearly feels otherwise and his opinion carries just a little (okay, a hell of a lot) more weight than that of an ignorant troll known as "extra" on letsrun. A 2:17 debut for a 29:15 10,000 man is credible indeed. He will go faster but to expect him to run his best time in his debut is foolish, at best.

You're still ignorant, then, explaining how you missed his 10,000 debut this year, and again while nobody should run his best 10,000 in his debut his time was not far off of what his 5000 time would predict.

Spoken by someone who has never coached anyone to any success at all. Also by someone who is ignorant of the sport to state it in myopic terms of times alone.
