The fact that it is a State school makes it all the more impressive.

Russian, with over 7000 post secondary institutions in the united states a tip 30.is defiantly elite! Just because it's a state school doesn't mean those kids wouldn't do well at Princeton Yale Or MIT. And that goes for michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, USC, ucla and many many other top notch public schools.
JACK DRIGGS!
all american in xc (13 at FL, 18 at NXN), second at state and nike midwest regional (behind lukas verzbicas) and 5 at FL midwest regional

Yes, it most definitely is an elite school. You may not like the school, but it is an elite school. Without a doubt.

It isn't ranked in the top 30 out of 7000 plus schools; it is the top 30 out of 250ish schools in its class.
Absolutely, the top students at many, many schools would tremendous students at Yale, Harvard, etc. UNC is a very good school.
I like UNC a lot, and I am absolutely in favor of going to a top notch state school instead of a private school- the difference in education isn't great, but the difference in cost is. But like you said, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, UCLA and many many other top notch public schools are excellent schools; UNC isn't so great that it is on a different level than these schools (or Cal, Virginia, William and Mary, Georgia Tech, UC-San Diego, UC-Davis, Washington, Texas, Penn State...).

I like the school a lot.
I suppose you and I have different definitions of elite.
Recent UNC grad here:
Is UNC an elite public university? Yes.
Is UNC of the same caliber as elite private universities (Harvard, Princeton, MIT, etc.)? It's definitely comparable in a few departments, but on the whole, no.
Could your average UNC in-state student (82% of student body) manage well at these elite private universities? Not a chance.
Could your average UNC out-of-state student make it at at these elite private universities? Absolutely, and quite a few of them were admitted to these private schools (I was).
You, are an ass. Sounds like you would have fit in over in durham better.
The Big Smooth
No, I would not have fit in better at Duke, for I don't carry around an inflated sense of how good a school I went to.
UNC is a great school, but it's just not on par with the Ivies, as some posters have suggested. Nor, for that matter, was it meant to be.
And as far as my being an ass: just what exactly have I posted do you disagree with?
Your average in-state student is simply not on the same level as the non-athlete out-of-state students. Are the top 10-15% of in-state students at that level? Absolutely. But to say that an individual at the 50th percentile of in-state students (who comprise 82% of the student body) will be comparable academically to the out-of-state admits is quantifiably false.
You're right. Your not an ass. Your just a dork.

Guilty as charged.
On a more running-related note - how about UNC's freshmen this year? Hursyz 8:01 3k and Presson 4:05 mile. Looks like Watson and co. are doing a fine job.
And as far as tomorrow night on the hardwood, Go to Hell Dook! Go Heels!
UNC Grad-I'm a Tarheel too. Hopefully Dook will take it easy on us tomorrow night-maybe Larry D will be there to clean up the mess that he made. See below-who did the Heels sign?
Jake Hurysz
My god our recruiting class is so good. Huge new commitment!

Did either of you run at UNC?
go heels! Hensen and Zeller will expose the dookies lack of a big man. Unless Seth Curry shoots 70% from behind the arc dook is in trouble.
On dyestat it says that UNC has signed jantzen oshier and Silas frantz, both footlocker finalists. I see on prep gold that they also reported jantzen but I can find no confirmation on frantz. Can anyone confirm or deny silas's commitment?
silas to uva and oshier still looking at cal from what we understand
jack driggs signed with UNC.
he goes to IL powerhouse, York. is a 4:08 miler, and an all-american at footlocker (13) and nxn (18)
You, sir, need to learn to respect the marathon.
Francis Hernandez, 4:09 high school miler and 9:15 two miler as a sophomore, rumored to be transferring from Providence to UNC.
