HS State Championship decided by first timing chip to cross. Is this normal?

So basically I'll lay it out like this. Forum posts like this get on my nerves because a lot of you have NO idea what you are talking about.

#1 Bib tags are not anymore accurate that tags on the shoes

#2 The Illinois state meet has FinishLynx cameras attached to the chip timing system at the finish line which ensures the most accurate results you can find.

#3 IPICO (used at Illinois) has probably the highest read percentage of any timing system I've tested, which includes most systems in the us. The only reason for 4 mats at the state meet is pure redundancy. The chip is read in the first 2 mats without question.

#3 Jaguar is not accurate at all, nor is any side scanning antenna chip timing system.

At the NY State Class Championships the chip was in the number, plus there was a hip number for photos.

Hey 'evidently' and the rest of your Gorilla marketing wonks who work at "innovation timing" Jaguar is terrible for determining place. the antenna angle forward and read the chips out infront of the line. it's a total guess. Either the antenna field stops reading at the start of the line or they use a horrible algorithm to extrapolate what the time would be at the finish. Of course the reading can vary based on the height and angle of the antenna which will always vary. DUH I have yet to see their timers use a level or a protractor. Their antenna have no idea where the finish line starts or stops. Yes we have tested and compared many systems with a finish lynx camera. The best systems currently are Chronotrack D-tag, Mylaps Active system, Chronotrack B-tag, Mylaps UHF, Championchip LF, Ipico, Jaguar, Dag, in that order. I am shocked they beat Dag. We couldn't get ahold of a RFID and WInning Time system. I would feel comfortable timing a CC championship race with the first 2 systems and only go to a camera for a protest. Ipico and LF championchip are pretty good but you will usually have 2-3 protests overturns in a `1000ish person event.

Jaguar Yikes. I wouldn't be foolish enough to use it in a championship XC race. To be fair it would work ok for a small 10k event. (less than 1000)

I don't normally knock equipment but Jaguar is so slimey in their marketing. They say they time a 70,000 person event in their advertising but fail to mention that they only timed 1500 or so of those runners. (see STL race for the cure) Then they say the truss system is better than unsafe mats. Try and put out splits on an open roads with a truss. Ever seen the guy who drives into his garage with his bike on top. OOPS!! they can't even handle a 4000 person event. Check out the Cluster at Myrtle Beach Marathon.
