i dont understand. how does puberty slow a girl down, if at all?
See, when someone is very tiny...they can move FAST. There have been many young girls that blazed impressive times at a young age. Take a look at Walt Murphy's Blue Book and notice performances by 10 year olds (Monica Scarbourough comes to mind) that are off the charts...but what ever happened to them when they got older?
When you learn how to run high miles on a small frame, it becomes harder as you carry more on it. Its not like it is with boys; get that thought out of your head. If you'd been around long enough to witness the pattern with young girls who blaze fast times it would become clear that the success stories are the MINORITY.
Everyone keeps saying Paula Radcliffe. Mary Decker. Cathy Schiro. Blah blah blah.
Monica Scarbourough. The Guntsch sisters. Erin Davis. Do the research. If she can still run these times in 5 years, I'll be impressed. But the only fast junior in recent memory that has consistently improved that *I* can think of is Heather Iaturo. If Nicole Blood is still looking good in two years, she'll get this honor too. God.
