The evolution of the different skin tones is thought to have occurred in response to climatic conditions. The haired primate ancestors of humans, like modern great apes, had light skin. When hominids evolved relatively hairless skin (the most likely function of which was to facilitate perspiration) while living in sun-rich Africa, they co-evolved dark skin, which was needed to control the adverse effects of ultraviolet radiation on folate levels. When their descendants migrated to less sun-intensive regions in the north, low vitamin D3 levels became a problem and light skin color re-emerged. Sexual selection and diet may have played a part in the evolution of skin tone diversity as well.
It is people later on (scholars?) who have chosen to take words like World to mean the entire world, and ark to mean giant boat.
I find this type of interpretation similar to people who analyze what a book or song means. They are usually wrong about what the author actually intended.
One of my favorite misinterpretations is Counting Crows the song Mr. Jones. People interpreted the song as Mr. Jones being the lead singer penis. The lead singer said no it was simply a song about his personal dream to be famous enough to pick up women easily. Still people think it really about his penis, regardless of what the songwriter says it's about.

there have been many smart people throughout time, but their ideas are replaced by better ideas. The Bible was written by people who thought that diseases were punishments instead of being caused by germs.

If you believe in it because you have faith in evolution then go for it, but it takes just as much faith to believe in an evolution view point as it does to believe in religion.
BTW, the theory that have "no evidence supporting it" actually has just as much evidence supporting it as does evolution. Sometimes you got to pull your head out of your ass long enough to look at the situation unbiased.
