Wow, what a track fan.
For somebody that constantly preaches to people about making track popular again and going out to meets, you're sure doing your part.
People don't have to go to meets. We encourage meets to make themselves more entertaining and try and bring in fans. Fans are free to do whatever they want with their time.
Driving 4 hours to watch one race is a lot. That's why I asked if someone was going to the meet. Then they could tape it and we could post it here. If someone has a vide of it email me at weldonjohnson at letsrun.com.

Why do you say they were doing it for a workout? Seems they, like every other team in the race, were going all out.

I would not be surprised if she ran 2 flat or 2:10. 2:00 is probably what she's capable of under the right circumstances, but when you factor in the fact that this is not a major competiton, no money or points, where is she in her training cycle and mentaly is up for accepting the hurt that goes with an 800.
Keep in mind that Sanya has sub-11 speed, which means she is a sprinter, not the Jearl Miles-Clark type, but she is strong, slight of built and does a lot of 800m type training.
This is a difficult one to call, I am going to say around 2:05.

Weak. That time would have been DFL at mt. sac in the women's invite and 8th place in the development. The only race she would have won was the high school girls, and by a step at best.
A bronze medal is a bronze medal. But a pretty well beaten 3rd.
And my 2:10 call was within 0.74 seconds. Curious what her 400 split was.
Huge props to Sanya for even attempting this. Nothing to gain, nothing to prove. I can't remember the last time an elite 400m specialist even considered it. The occasional 600m try, but never the full 2-lapper. Lot of guts.
This should quiet the Wariner debaters, even though it won't. He might have world-beating potential at 8, but without specific training he'd be at the level of a top high-schooler, just like Sanya was tonight.
I'm with rojo that this was one of the most interesting races of the early season.

It was raining all day in Waco. The track was saturated. She even split 65/65. It was funny watching the runners give way to her. She ran in a long sleeve white shirt and knee length tights. Barely looked like she was trying.
