How fast could Roger Federer run a 400? 5k?

As for 400 meters, I don't believe Murray or Federer could run anywhere near 52. To go that fast with no training requires naturally good sprinting form which is not common at all, probably much less if you're trained for something like tennis.

The first paragraph of this post is pure gold! Thank you for the chuckle! BTW, I don't think Federer would break 18:00, he might go 54 on the 400.

Federer has a weird hyperextended leg problem if you watch closely when he is about to serve. No way he could do 54s. He does go for long runs.

Have you ever raced 400m in a track & field meet? Please tell me you raced a 400m leg on a 4x400m. Maurice, please tell me you have raced a 400m leg on a medley. I feel you have not too much respect for the 400m event. You feel athletes from other sports can just stroll over to a track and knock out a 52 400m. Fifty-two 400m is about the same as racing a 2:29 Marathon. No one would dare state that an athlete from another sport could knock out a 2:29 Marathon without serious training.

Maurice , In 2003 federer could run 3.3 km in 12 minutes and 9.3 km in 40 minutes, no way is he running 17 minutes for 5k.

True, right now i doubt if federer could break 20 for 5k.

Don’t know exactly why RF does in his training.
But the Clemson men’s tennis teams in the 90s were running a mile in 5-5:20. The baseline of training was 15 400m under 75 seconds with a 90 second break.
if the whole team wasn’t under 75 seconds for 15 reps..you wouldn’t get to the court to hit tennis balls.

So I would say with a little practice RF would get a few 400s under 60 seconds.

a 400m sprint is critical to tennis. not so much the speed, but the lung capacity to play long points and practice hard for 2-3 hours is why the 400m is critical.

I'm a tennis player - very aging! - and I was once considered very fast. I could run the 400 in the low fifties - 52ish - in my twenties but Federer in his prime (2004/7) was unbelievably fast. He would have killed me over 400.
