So a D1 team could lose at large points by losing to a D2 team? I would think when it came time for the selection process they would act as if the D2 team wasn't even in the meet. I thought all that mattered was who you beat head to head.

I don't get how losing to a team that can't qualify for D1 nationals should affect teams that can (i.e., D1 losing to D2/3/NAIA/NJCAA or whatever might one day come up.) And since it apparently does, wouldn't the people who came up with this system also know that a D1 team losing to Adams State, the freakin' Griak champions, is much more understandable than a D1 contender suddenly losing to, say, Alaska-Anchorage, or Lock Haven, or some lesser D2?

Adams beat CU (unofficial combined results) in 2007 at the Shoot-out and CU ended up having a good year. I don't see a reason for Oregon to deny the competition. If anything, it might draw more hype to their meet and their city. I'm sure there is a good reason and I hope ASC gets a chance to mix it up somewhere else. By the way, Oregon would not dominate them. It would be very close, or at worst, respectable.

Well I think you said it yourself Mr. A Duck, all we are asking is that you invite a D2 school to your invitational so you can jog to an easy win. You made the worst argument on this entire board saying you think it is a great idea for football teams to compete against D2 schools but unacceptable for your running program to lower themselves that much. Do your school a favor and stay off letsrun, your embarrassing yourself and your program.

Some people are spouting some absolute trash on this thread! Lets get a few things straight..

1. A D2 team beating a D1 team in an XC meet has absolutely ZERO bearing when it comes to at large bids. The points are awarded using only the D1 teams in the meet.

2. The Dellinger XC meet is a huge deal and the Ducks do not want to lose. They run their full strength team with the occasional exception of someone like Rupp who has ran a major champs in August. That will not be the case this year.

3. If Adams did go there and beat a bunch of D1 schools, it wouldn't make any difference at all as to whether those schools would come back the next year. For a start Adams go to a different big meet each year so by some peoples thinking it would make sense for schools that Adams beat this year to go back next year because there would be 99% chance that Adams would not be there.

4. There is one single reason why Oregon are not letting Adams into their meet...because they are afraid of losing to them and this would look awful at their big home xc meet infront of all the alumni, nike etc etc.

I'm loving all the D2 kids pounding their fists and screaming "LOOK AT THIS TEAM IN OUR DIVISION, THEY'RE GOOD!"

It's an INVITATIONAL. Oregon has every right to make it a tri meet against two D3 schools or invite every D1 school in the nation if they so choose. Even if they are "ducking" Adams State who cares? Adams State can't find a different meet to race Oregon at?

I'm also suspecting most of these posts are multis as the "ASU" mistake has been made multiple times... Arizona State is not involved in this. Adams State COLLEGE is abbreviated ASC.

are non-d1 schools allowed to run prenats?

Adams did, in fact, defeat Arkansas in 1992, it has not been disproven here or elsewhere because it is impossible to disprove something that did, in fact, happen.

NO. The Oregon A team races Dellinger, possibly pre nats, Pac 10's, Regionals, Nationals.

The ONLY chance Adams State have to race against Oregon is at Dellinger and Oregon and not allowing them this chance.

Nobody is saying that Oregon dosen't have the right to deny Adams entry into the meet but the argument us "d2 kids" are making is that Oregon is scared of losing to Adams. Oregon races its full squad at a few meets, Bill Dellinger, Pre-Nats, Confrences, Regionals, and Nationals; D-II teams are not allowed to race at any of the above meets except Bill Dellinger.

Name the meet. I have the 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, & 1994 Arkansas media guides right here. I will check out whatever meet you say ASC beat Arkansas in.

are all of the oregon runners as much of a tool as you? if i were them id start talking and defend your school... as i expected most oregon runners are either running nerds (mostly) or spoiled babies (aj acosta). you guys wont win nats this year so go race adams and get used to taking it hard. once again, you and your coaches at oregon are tools. oh and same goes to arkansas for not letting d2 runners race in your indoor meets. d1 is lead by tools. competition should be welcomed especially for the top of any sport

In some ways OU is probably ducking Adams, but perhaps not because of a real fear of losing. They probably just know that it would be a pretty close race, given how strong the Adams team is, and they want their guys to treat the meet like what it is, a small early season meet with little to no effect on their season.
