i understand his decision not to run. the guy's been having problems with his foot, and his coach, being cautious (perhaps a bit over cautious i admit), decided not to risk it on the course. this really doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me though. everybody just gets pissed off because galen has fallen into an incredibly fortunate situation.
on that note, i'm really, i mean really, tired of hearing all these people say "WAAAAA he has an altitude tent", "WAAAA he has alberto", "WAAAAA he does things that pre didn't". please.
do you mean to tell me that if alberto salazar, former WR holder in the marathon, was your HS coach and told you, "hey, you can be the best at this" you wouldn't do what he told you to do? of course not. you high and mighties would say, "no. pre didnt do that." and btw, the rupps aren't rich. there was a really good article a year or so ago talking about the financial struggles his family goes through trying to make sure he gets to do the things he needs. now, obviously once he leaves uo this spring, all of those will go away, but in the meantime, his family is enduring a rough 5-year path. on top of all that, if you watch any of his interviews or ever get the chance to talk to him, you will find that he is one of the most sincere people in the sport. he's just a kid. a super-talented kid trying to be as good as he can at what he does.
