GF and RG may be close in times, but there's one major difference most epople are overlooking:
Ryan Gregson can kick like a mofo.
I'm talking Bekele-esque here.
All other things being equal, if Gregson and Fernandez were together with < 400m to go in, say, a 5000, Gregson would absolutely demolish Fernandez, guaranteed.
Fernandez would drop him with a mile to go, so the situation you describe is irrelevant.
And Fernandez doesnt write about himself on forums.

the only time they have met that i know of was at world junior cross country where fernandez was 25th and gregson was 31st.
these are 2 good prospects, but they may be going in different events for the future with gregson more of a 1500/5k runner and fernandez a 5k/10k and probably eventually the marathon, it could be optimistic on my part, but i can see gregson running a 3:30 for 1500 and 12:50 for 5k fot a career best and fernandez also around 12:50 for 5k about 26:40 for 10k and maybe a 2:05-2:06 marathon. these times are what i think they can achieve for lifetime best that probably wont happen for 10 years. and who knows in 10 years even those times may not be good enough. lets wish them luck the odds are greatly against them.

You guys are priceless, people on here have been talking Fernandez through the roof for months and as soon as a guy comes a long with a little more strings in his bow everyone gets insecure.. I haven't posted on this thread under any other aliases.. thing is there are plenty of people prepared to back gregson over fernando.. and I'm pretty sure Gregson himself is far too much of a nice guys to be ragging on fernando on here.
Gregson just ran 3:41 and two weeks later ran 29:10 on the road beating Guys who have represented Australia at a open level and have run 28:20 on the track. There will be no debate about who is better as in two weeks greson will run 7:50 or faster over 3km.
do you guys realise that the days after his 3.41, he did a 14.11 5000m.... then 15 minutes later ran a 1.52 800m relay leg. WASSSUP!
Two hours after his 3:43 (4:00 1600, this is bout the conversion) German ran 8:03 (Again converting from the 38, it may be faster?). This is all foolish. GF>RG
Maybe if Bideau is smart enough he would bring gregson over to toy with Fernandez!
Might be an ok hype up for both kids. Bideau can bring some young aussies and we provide some young college runners too.

Sounds like you still believe that colleges are entering their guys in dual meets every weekend.
Willis, Fountain, Smith (K.), Smith (M.), McLaren, Macenzie, McNeil, Ashkettle are just a few of the autraliaians who have flourished in the states, there are so many more that are doing better (and certainly no worse) than they would have had they stayed at home.
If Gregson feels it is in his best interests to be based from aussie, good on him, but don't pretend that going to the US is not a good option for him.

Meanwhile, German has been tearing it up on the NCAA Cross Country circuit, winning his Conference meet in convincing fashion. He has yet to loose a Cross Country race in the NCAA, although I doubt that he will win the NCAA championship.

NZ loses 6-10 athletes to the US every year and you just named two success stories over what 6 or more years.
Fountain barely makes international level ie Olympic, and none of the other ones have. Yet all the Aussies at least were thought to have had the potential.
And i'm not talking about the NCAA system, i'm talking about the lack of understanding of distance running in US Colleges and in the US in general. For 300 million and so much focus on athletics you guys really suck. Every other areas of US track and field is so much more successful.

he actually mentioned more than two examples, the myth that going to the states is a road to burnout has been well and truly been debunked.. there are bad coaches everywhere, and people drop out of the sport at uni age everywhere.... this happens independent of whether you are in the US, Aus or India
