You've made the results clear to anyone. It's interesting that there is still time for some amazing distance times this year, and not just from Fernandez. Two guys reset the bar in HS running this year, but there are several other incredible HS runners who will contribute to the future success of elite running in the US for many years to come.
not that anyone knows what webb or ryun could have done a double in under the same conditions as german, but I don't think that webb's footlocker xc performance indicated that he was maxed at 8:45. first, he is said to have run easy in that 2 mile race. second, the 3:53 mile on the tables predicts much, much better than 8:36 2 mile. third, webb is a much better track runner than xc runner. fourth, webb did some unbelievably hard workout quite soon before xc champs, and that might very well have cost him the race. he ran something like 4:30, 4:25, 4:20, 4:15, with a ten minute two mile in there. someone post the exact workout.

it was a somewhat breezy and on the warm side too. Not bad conditons, but not optimum, either.
Is German running the two mile at PRE? He should...
It's pretty amazing. Which event did he run first and do you know how much time there was betewwn events? I'm wondering which is more difficult, doing the 2 mile then the mile or the other way around, assuming the times between events are the same. I'd say doing a 2/1 would be because the 2nd event is so much faster. When you doubled Malmo did you like to to do the 2 or the 1 first?

jim ryun is (as previoulsy stated) the greatest high school runner, ever. he was the first high school kid under 4:00 in the mile. he eventually set a WORLD RECORD in that same event. you should be shot for not at least knowing who he is.

webb's 3:53.43 is equivalent to 8:19.11 2 mile on the iaaf tables.
Greg Anderson's double of 3:47 for 1500 and 8:00.2 for 3000m are worth 1015 and 1055 points respectively for a total of 2070.
What does the 8:34 convert to for 3000m and 2 miles?
Having been there to witness those Anderson races the Fernandez double is astounding.
To count for this double do the races have to be run the same day? I believe the 1500 was the previous evening.
i think Eric Hulst had several doubles that should be in here. Off the top of my head i seem to remember he was very impressive at Arcadia Invitaional in 1975. He had lots of sub 8:55 2 mile times with sub 4:10 mile doubles and if i remember correctly at Arcadia he threw in a half mile at 2:02 during the beginning of the 2mile.

Remember, Arcadia was a dirt track back then too.
We need to agree that this is the best high school double ever. He wasn't pushed. He runs effortlessly. The scary thing is how much better he must run in the future to be world class. Does he have to run the marathon to be world class? He could run a 12:50 5k and not be a factor in the olympics or world championships. The would be 5 Africans ahead of him. I'm sure he could have ran 3:55 if pushed. Or 8:25. However on the world stage there are probably 10+ Africans his age that may be better right now.

True, but only one (a sub-2:00 800 "warm-up") before the 3200.
Didn't Webb run positive splits en route to his 8:45 indoors? I thought he went through the mile in 4:19.
