I don't understand the harsh condemnation of McDougal. The guy could very well, should very well, just be starting to bust the rust off and not backing off his high volume, high intensity one iota yet. Remember, it's only April, and the guy needs to be peaking around July-August. Frankly, last year, the guy had put together a fine indoor season running 13:37 long before he peaked with his solo 3:57 and 13:20 Mt. Sac efforts. This year, it seems as though he laid low and trained through it.

On the other hand, people seem to think that just because a college junior ran 13:20 last year, that he's got way more upside. And I just simply don't think so. I believe this guy will run close to 13:10+ and 27:30 +/- someday, but not much faster than that, regardless of whether or not he can handle 200 miles per week balls out or whatever. He will be moving to the marathon as he should, because a 27:30 in international competition, much as it seems nearly the limit for a white boy without an "East African" background or performance enhancers as it has been for 40 years, will damn near get you lapped anymore.

the team ended up 4th at the championships and the 18 points from that race had a bag impact on that result...so don't make a comment about having to be a contender to race for team points wheb you dont even realize that team was in the running... and not just because of bauhs, there were people with solid results across the board for chico...
Does anyone remember about 4 years ago in D1's with Daniel Lincoln and Alistar Craig in the 10k. Alistar gave it to Lincoln. Interestingly no one bashed them for that. Everyone said it was classy of Craig to let Lincoln win due to what he had done for Arkansas.

On that day, that given 5K, Bauhs was clearly the better runner, not only over Charlie Serrano, but over the entire field. As an act of selflessness, Bauhs let Charlie win. The record book now show D2 5K Champion Charlie Serrano, Chico State, but we all know that it should read: Scott Bauhs, World's Greatest Humanitarian and icon of the "I Love Scotty Bauhs" fan club.

Well redhead, start a thread about those guys, i believe they did fantastic, but this thread is more geared toward the matchup between the d1 champ vs the d2 champ.

I\'m going to have to step in and comment on a few things.
1. Scott Bauhs is an arrogant, cocky bastard. Ask some of his teammates ( the ones who don\'t worship him)
2. He let Serrano win at nationals. Not to share the spotlight, but to let Serrano know that he totally owns him. If he wanted to share the spotlight and be a nice, selfless guy he wouldn\'t have thrown his arms up and smiled at the crowd like a cocky dick soaking up all the attention while his teammate took the race seriously
3. Gary Towne is a pretty cool guy. I don\'t know why you are taking shots at him.
4. Bauhs outkicked NicoD, but does anyone remember how many races Bauhs ran before the 5k??
