I've actually found that true runners NEED the joggers around. Who do you think keeps your local running store in business, who keeps a lot of races on the calendar so if you decide you're hurting this weekend and would rather try for next weekends race you can do it without worrying you missed your peak.
What I learned a long time ago is that there are more joggers then there are "runners' in the sport, and they fuel all the fun stuff that comes with it like new shoes, new elite uniforms and so on.
My problem is what the OP concerns somewhat about that in Boulder, even the joggers are disrespectful and show no community spirit. Sure they run the local races but they don't talk to or run with anyone coming into the race for a month or two and then think they are going to steamroll guys.
I think what we miss about the sport is the love between runners and joggers and walkers (screw cyclists). We are all just out there trying to better ourselves and we should be more supportive of that all around.
