Deena dissed at Paso Robles 10k

Probably Jane Housewife.

deena makes 6 figures, i can guarantee that. olympic medallist or not, she is making herself look like a cheapskate. its another sad example of how cheap runners can be.

I think Deena can afford a weekend away with out getting a local race to pay for it.

I think that the original poster wanted someone to notice the race and it worked.

Well if you visited her website you would see that "something" got in the way of her running the race....

That's my problem with this....why did she feel the need to make a deal of it on her website?

I think you are truly mistaken about the whole idea of professionalism...............

Here's the bottom line: In the United States, running is not considered a profession.

No one perceives runners as professional. Your average Joe at the Chicago marathon has no idea that some people they're in the same race with do this for a living. It never occurs to them that distance running can be a professional sport, therefore they don't respect it as such.

Deena not getting an entry comped is just another example of how very little respect distance running has in the United States of America.

And it will never EVER changed so long as our elite runners are treated like the Deena has recently been treated.

Now, how is everyone's fantasy football league going. We need to get back to what matters: NFL football! A real sport...

This must have been a mixup in terms because it doesn't make sense. My thoughts are that she wanted travel and hotel, which in her mind means comped or the race was no longer accepting entries and the AD was the only way in.

Yes, I agree that she probably wanted more than the $25 fee waived for her to go to that race. Yes, I also thought that was funny that the regular entry fee (before it goes up an additional $100 in October) is only $10. Why not just eliminate the fee? I guess when it comes to the USATF, every little bit helps.

This reminds me of the Cowtown 10k back in about 92 or 93. Catherina McKiernan for some unknown reason decided to run Cowtown and asked them for a comp entry and hotel room. They had no idea who she was and as far as I know didn't even comp her entry. She ran it anyway but wasn't too happy about it. I think she ended up running about 31:30 or so and getting the silver medal at World XC a month later.

Yes, I see the GODDAMN greater issue here: I've offered to contribute up to $500 to Deena's self-indulgent race/luxury wine country junket if she'd do the same to the Jenny Crain Fund. That way everyone wins - except me, of course, I'll be out $500. I won't even get a tax deduction here, Deena will. In her tax bracket that a lot of moola.

I've put my money where my mouth is, I'm sure there are a few here who will join me. Perhaps we can raise enough money to have Deena escorted on top of a gilded litter with 10 strong Nubian attendants, and maidens dropping rose petals in her pathway. Afterwards a private performance featuring Suzi Atascadero and the Pleasure Seekers?

I'm an elite athlete and I must say Im quite shocked that an athlete of her caliber didnt get comp'ed, wat the hell is the director thinking?!! Distance runners dont make millions of dollars so yes you are damn right i would be pissed at a 25 entry fee when im the best damn runner in the field, you think Geb, or bekele would have to pay for a small road race in their home towns HELL NO, im not a world medalist like deena and even i wouldn pay 25

read my post before . . . it's the attitude you've displayed that makes rd's refuse runners. deena didn't want the bib; she wanted a free weekend (nad she does makes millions). if this was the race of 5 years ago she would have gotten it. because of the sh!tty attitudes of self righteous, entitled elites, rd's aren't willing to help. (i'm a retired elite, not an rd, for what it's worth).

so often we hear about how down to earth and humble distance runners are. that's such a load of crap! some of the most indulgent, expectant people.
