What would happen if I opened an all-white college?

UNLESS............

* said white person is related to an alumni of the school they are applying to. Like, I don't know, George Dubya Bush getting into Yale (and about a million other white kids who have gotten into good schools because their Daddy or Mommy were some big-shot who used to go that school). Who had a better chance of getting into Yale with average grades and SAT scores, a black kid because of a diversity advantage or George Dubya Bush because of a legacy advantage ?

* said white person's family is good friends with people on the admissions board of a particular school. Do white people tend have more of these connections or black people?

* said white person goes to a super expensive ritzy private school that has teachers and guidance counselors that have connections at rich universities, and are able to pull some strings at those colleges to get kids in. Again, are there more whites or blacks with such an advantage as that?

* said white person, etc, etc, etc

Yeah, but all the other times that whites get selected over other students because of the reasons/advantages they have that I cited above, those advantages don't seem unfair to you at all?? Of course not, of course not.

So you're saying that a term is a racial slur "only" if someone thinks it brings them down? Therefore, you could just go around saying "n*****" all you want, and claim: "Well, that's their problem for taking offense." Gotcha.

I'm sure you couldn't care less if someone called you whitey. Your using it as a handle does, however, show your preoccupation with race. I didn't say that your using this term projected a stereotype. You projected a stereotype by assuming that I am white. For the record, though, I can dance, and, as evidenced by my funky fresh "How to Convert Hexadecimal to Decimal" (leatherbound) book at my side, I am no nerd.

Lastly, what difference does it make what they call the channels? I guess what difference does it make what they call anything, then? What difference does it make if someone wants to call their rap group "Niggas with Atitudes"? Point is, "certain" people can do it, while "others" somehow cannot. Would the name "White Entertainment Television" really bother you? Or society? If so, why?

Whites have is so much more easy. They need minority scholarships because discrimination is so bad. Trying to blame them won't solve your problems. Whites get treated more favorably in virtually all aspects of academia. Perhaps you expect so much more because you are white. If you can't deal with it without resorting to blame then you don't deserve to get to the next level. Character building is a part of education, a part of life, you must learn this, before anything else, and you haven't shown it thus far.

Do you see white students only associate white other white students? Does this bother you as much?

First off, if they're in the minority, it's a hell of a lot more difficult for them to "segregate" since they're mainly surrounded by whites, so I highly doubt that they are "segregating themselves," but are you as bothered by football players who only hang out with football players, people who dress in black clothes and paint their faces hanging out with each other, and do you look at the groups of all white people and wonder why they are segregating themselves, or do you assume that it is somehow the responsibility of minorities to 'integrate' these all white groups - in classrooms, in dorms, in the dining hall, on teams, everywhere, at every moment of their lives?

to those folks who think they are doing everyone a great service by not seeing any color, i challenge you to reconsider your position.

blacks (really, that's an acceptable term), hispanics, whoever, often choose to identify themselves as black or hispanic. For them, their color is an important part of their identity and to say that you do not see any color in anyone is just insensitive and ridiculous. that'd be like someone telling you that completely overlook your identity as a runner, when clearly that is a big part of who you are.

i had a conversation recently with an in-your-face christian girl who prides herself on being color blind, and she mentioned how she felt slighted for sometimes being labeled as racist. i countered that she is overlooking a huge part of lots of people's lives: their color. that is inherently racist because you're not recognizing that race still matters in our country. what if there was a religion-blind person who summarily dismissed her religion (which she strongly identifies with) as a valid identity? i tend to think she wouldn't be happy that someone did that too her.

I'd be interested to know which posts you found interesting. Specifically, if the OP's post wasn't so, as deemed by yourself, then why has this thread grown at the rate that it has? The OP may not have used the correct terminology, which many of you seem to be hung up on, but he did raise an interesting issue (i.e. this so-called "reverse racism".) Racism is racism, okay? Or is there some way to justify "certain" racism?

Are you really that stupid or just ignorant of history? The Black Colleges were started as a result of racial discrimination. Blacks were not allowed to enroll in the 'white' universities.

You doubt that minorities are segregating themselves? You are a rare breed, indeed. What parallel universe are you living in?

Did anyone else find this racist? Not all white people are privileged. Some of us actually do have to work hard to get anywhere.

Ok so unless a TV channel doesn't have the title white in it you don't recognize that it is catering to white people.

Are you going to look someone in the face and tell them that the food channel is honestly trying to get black people to watch it.

The following channels are off the top of my head that are specifically catering to white people not black.

History Channel (just look at the show's)

AMC

Golf Central

LMN

TCM

WE

HLMK

TLC

Don't get me wrong there might be black people out there that watch these channels but like BET which targets black people these channel's target audiance are white people.

The reason why there is no channel called the white channel is because the MAJORITY OF CHANNELS are devoted towards the white culture.

I'm genuinely curious what region of the US you live in. You've honestly never seen arrant self-segregation on the part of minorities?

He didn't use the wrong terminology. His stated facts that are completely false. His whole premise is based on all-black college that exclude whites. They don't exist.

His post wasn't thought provoking. It was hair-pulling. It doesn't take much to get 5 pages of responses on letsrun. Any post that involves gays, evangelicals, abortion, the Bushes, or the Clintons will quickly reach 100+ posts. It's why trolling is a favorite hobby here.

As far as my interests in the topic, I think AA programs were well intentioned and somewhat successful, but are probably past there sell-buy date. I think the main failure of AA programs is that they blindly value race, while ignoring socio-economic situation. There are just as many poor whites growing up in this country as there are poor minorities. People can argue whether giving the poor preferential treatment in college admission is good policy.

Personally, I think it would benefit the country and would eliminate some of the rigid class structure that we are developing. Plus, I think it is our duty to make sure that children aren't punished for the sins of the father.

BTW, your mirroring writing style is cute, but you can do better than that.
