If you do this I'll do 12 naked nutclaps on the W&L track.
If not you've got to buy my next egg and porkroll sandwich w/ salt pepper and ketchup obv.

I predict 62/75 = 2:17
I think you can do it. Don't listen to the guys that tell you to actually train for anything this week though. Instead think "activate". Throw in the strides that you were mentioning and do the volume you've been doing just to keep the feel of running going. Then, 4 days before, do this workout: 500 meter time trial - 1 minute standing recovery - 300 meter time trial.
I did this one week a few years back. I hadn't done any 800m pace work and was feeling quite sluggish in training, so my coach had me do the above workout as a neurological shock session. I ran 1:10 and :42. I was completely flattened and thought there was no way I could remove the recovery 4 days later and run 1:52, but this is exactly what I did. The race felt amazing. Sometimes all you need to do is wake up the 'ol system again.
you CAN do this, you are only a few years out of college, where it looks like you were more of a miler than half miler. Muscle memory & some guts will get you through.
Been there done that.
2 minutes is not that hard, you are still in decent shape, better than alot of high school kids who break 2.
Your fitness is not going to change in a short time so make the most of what you have. Stay Fresh, lots of stretching beforehand and the day of.
sub 2 is pretty much mental & pain management i have used a pacing method that kept me under 2 for a LONG time after any serious training.
You shoot for a even 60/60 split but how it is done is what gets you under. You actually break the race into 4 sections. the start/1st 200,the float/2nd 200, float butprep for kick/3rd 200, all out/final 200.
1st 200 is adrenaline & pace next quarter mile is float and last 200 just kicking hard coming home knowing you are feeling like shit but you will make it.
Its VERY IMPORTANT that you think of this race a 200 at a time especially since you are running alone.
At the start get up to 30 sec speed asap and settle into your float, adrenaline in the first 70 meters should give you a little cushion so you will be just under 30, but don't think about it you will make it up in the end.
Now just float trying to hold that 30 second pace,
when you hit 400 you will feel like shit
probably in about 61 and you won't believe you can go another lap, let alone another lap FASTER, but trust me you will
try to float a little longer but you will struggle to hold 30 second pace so you will be doing a little more than floating. So really concentrate on holding your form even if it requires more effort, this is the hardest part of your race. at this time think of it as a 600, just get there while keeping some semblence of form, when you do, you realize you have accomplished 3/4 of your goal, the race is almost over and all thats left is to kick it in.
Its gonna hurt now whether you jog in or go all out,
So you run your ass off, You'll be hyperventalating like crazy but just keep going as hard as you can and you will break 2.
For me thinking like this made it a piece of cake to break 2 for years, you have the muscle memory to do a 60 second quarter and even though I felt lousy after a 60 second quarter experience had taught me over & over that i could squeeze off another as long as i could hold pace for another 200 and kick like hell.
I also found my actual splits when i thought i was running 30's were closer to 31-32, but that initial rush puts your
first 200 right around 30 and the last 200 you go like hell
my middle quarter was usually 61-62 seconds so that really doesn't take much fitness does it? I'm sure you have more than that, the fastest 200 you need is only a 28 or so, thats not much of a sprint
anyway good luck.
10x200 in 30 with 1min rest cutting down to 30 seconds rest.'
even if you fall off the pace finish the bastard. its a mix of vo2 and repetition. Also, hit the gym. squats pumps pushups and situps, lots of sit ups. continue this every day until saturday, then stop lifting and do this workout:
rest is full recovery.
100 in 14,
200 in 28-29,
300 in 44
400 in 59
500 in 1:14
all out 800 time trial. if you break 2:10 great, you have a shot. if you run 2:05 or faster you're golden.
sunday 5 miles easy
monday 3 miles VERY VERY VERY VERY easy barely above walking pace. for the last mile pick it up to 6 min. do some 50 meter strides if you want to. that evening do jumping jacks and stretch. get pumped up, watch a war movie something like that.
tuesday: drink 10 redbulls before your time trial for the first lap put down 57-8, should feel easy hold that pace as long as possible, fight down the straightaway. you should break 2.
dont eat. eat meat. the day before eat a small serving of pasta. drink 10 redbulls before. maybe take an antacid in the hours before the run. get a massage every night. trust me, its HARDER than you think it is. 1:52 is good but its not possible to take that kinda time off and just pop it out. it usually takes 3-4 weeks. you're talking about 1 week here. apart from taking drugs I would say you don't have a chance in hell. if you do everything I say you might have a chance. might.
use the pose method... you will certainly break 2... with pose you can scale mountians by letting gravity pull you forward up the hill
get em. do it. ship it. cavalry greet. cavalry get. lock it. unluck. cavalry lock.
not messing.
Go out and run a 400. If you can't break 60 . You might as well not even show up to the thing. Because you will look like a fool running 2:10 or slower.

I'm not really worried about looking like a fool since there's no way I'm not going to look like a fool. I'm going to look like a regular guy running my @ss off with 10 idiot friends yelling at me at a high school track on a monday night after work if I run 1:55 or 2:25. There's no pride at stake here because there's nothing invested in it except a few strides and an ice-bath.
My hammys are killing me though, I have to admit. I might not be able to walk come race day. I don't welch though, I'll pay up either way.

Today is the big day no?
bump, though results will probably be this evening or tomorow.
It might not happen today. I was away for work all weekend, was working until 11ish friday night, worked all day saturday (8-10ish, long miserable day) and part of sunday (and had to travel on Sunday) and ended up getting sick last night. I feel like holy hell right now, am congested and didn't sleep last night as a result.
I agreed to pay up if I end up forfeiting, but as it turns out, the guy I made the bet with has to work tonight anyway. We're leaving town tomorrow to visit our families for Thanksgiving so it's going to have to happen next week.
Sorry to those who care.

You obviously care enough to open the thread, read and post.
Punked again.
WOW, I was rooting for you, but not anymore.
What with the lame excuses? (ridiculously detailed, and I'm sure, inflated!)
We ALL work. Would you ask a RD to change the date of a race because you had a long day at work?
That's lame.
Based on your poor attitude, I predict that:
a/ nothing will ever take place.
b/ you will never break 2 minutes.
I hope you prove me wrong, but I think this thread will fall off the back and we will never hear from you again. Bummer of sorts....
dude, how did you do?
OK.....we are all waiting to see how the fat boy ran ???
Break 2:00 ???......I am guessing NOT
