OJ was 84 I think. Anyone remember Merrick Jones from Elmira? I think he was 84 too and went to Notre Dame. All this reminiscing makes me wonder where one can find State meet results (XC, Indoor, Outdoor) from that era (81-83).

OK, everybody knows Stahr anchored ASU's 4x8 team in Tempe in 1984 that set a U.S. collegiate record that still stands (7:08.XX)

anybody remember who ran the three other legs?

Well, Mr. Sun Devil... I could answer that but would that be fair? But here are their initials: PR, ED, TS, MS

And I believe they are in the correct order?

One of the most exciting high school races that I have ever seen was a 1000 meter race at the 83 Yale Invitational. I had set up my video camera to tape my daughter in the 3000m and decided to tape Mike Stahr and Miles Irish in the 1000m.

I was rewarded with a national high school record with Miles Irish just beating a very fast closing Mike Stahr. Everyone who has seen the video of the tape is absolutely mesmerized while watching it.

Guess "Section 1" wasn't Ed Kehoe after all. I will send him the URL for the thread and see if he wants to trip down his high school memory lane - -he and some old pals revisited his college glory days a couple of weeks ago...might as well regress four years earlier...

hey, what about Section IX in New York. I ran with Dan Rechner at Burke Catholic, not sure if anyone remembers him.

I heard Miles Irish broke four minutes for the mile while still in high school. One of my old girlfriends told me -- she went to Georgetown and met him on campus. She was pretty impressed when she heard that.

The '83 Yale Invite had to be the greatest day of High School racing, 800/1000/mile were star studded. It would be great if some one could post the results to see the total picture. Many went on to have highly successful campaigns at the higher levels.

Did you show Miles and myself that tape right after the race? Because I remember someone that had set up the tape showing it to us. If so, could I get a copy of it? I have been putting all of my tapes of races on DVD and would love to add that one...

The Class and all time NYS records

Why is it there were so many fantastic NYS runners in 1981-1983? I think the height of the running boom and the fact that THE RUNNER magazine was still around, and RUNNER'S WORLD was still a magazine for competitive runners, helped fuel the fire in those guys.
