All of you angry dudes have got to be kidding me! I have run in Nikes since I was 13 years old (I'm 39 now) and have only once had an air pocket pop on me. I worked in a running specialty store in college and ran at a Nike sponsored school back when that was unusual. I have run the full gamut of Nikes. Have topped over 100 miles per week more times than I can remember throughout my 20s and early 30s and even now as a busy husband and father still manage 50-60 mpw. I've tried other brands and don't quite get the fuss. I know all the running specialty guys love Asics and Brooks right now. I have tried different models in each and have been completely underwhelmed.
For those who say that Nike is all marketing and no substance. See if you can ever get a tour of the inner workings of the Nike campus in Beaverton. I had a friend who used to wrok in the running division there. He showed me around and I was amazed at all of the research and development that takes place there. There is not another company that spends the money Nike does on R&D. If you think the other companies are so special you would probabaly be floored to find out how many developers working for the other companies used to work at Nike.
I am smart enough to know that Nike is not for everyone, but some of you don't really seem to know much about how they operate and how much they put into their running division. I know they are the big guy so they must be evil. The big guys always are, right? I have even heard that they lose money on track & field, but keep spending the money because that's where the company's roots are.
Just my thoughts as a loyal Nike customer.
By the way, to that guy complaining about his watch. Did you even try to send it to Parsec? I've always had good luck with them.
PS - Buy your shoes at your local running specialty store. Even if they have been brainwashed by the niche brands like Brooks and Asics, they will look out for you and try to get you in the shoe that is right for you.
PPS - When I popped that air pocket on my shoes I was actually at a track meet as a spectator and there was a Nike rep at the meet working in a Nike tent selling gear. I told him what happened and he gave me a free pair on the spot. How's that for customer service?
