LRC note. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, including us, and we feel the OP is simply wrong. Keely was extremely complimentary of Werro in this interview right after the race. Watch it for yourself.
She was shaken up and going through the stages of denial in real time with a camera in her face.
100% - and that's understandable.
Every great athlete in history has a moment where the field or a challenger catches up with them - Morceli got waxed by El G in the 1996 GP final and despite winning the Olympics that every year, it was a dramatic and hostile takeover as from that point Morcelis reign was over and El G went on his run of domination.
But even that example above shows how challenging this moment was for her - she hasn't even achieved her "dream" ambition yet (as Morceli did with the OG gold) and she had that impetus shockingly (and this was a shocking result) swept out from under her feet. Even worse was that within a handful of minutes of it happening she had a camera and micropphone jammed in front of her to basically explain what had just happened. I'd be shaken and in a state of denial too.
And as I said in my previous post - this is a 24 year old middle distance runner and not an election candidate with experience in dealing with and circumventing difficult questions in a variety of fashions.
....
I understand your POV. I have looked and looked for the 8 minute interview where I extracted those comments and the longest interview is less than 5 minutes now. Regardless I understand she thought she would win and didn't expect someone she has beaten numerous times to EVER rise to her level.
I certainly thought Keely would win the Stockholm DO 800m and apparently so did she but now I'm glad she didn't win. During her post run interview she was so dismissive of Aubrey Werro and only gave one positive note at the end.
Her negative statements:
1.) "I won't let that happen again".
Really Keel if someone runs faster than you're capable, how are you going to stop them❓
2.) "I let her go and figured Aubrey normally runs out of steam."
So she was never to learn from her past races and improve her performances.
I'm STILL NOT hating on Keely but I did dislike those two statements. I hope both of them improve on their personal best again this year.

Vipam,
Just admit you were wrong and fabricated those quotes from your opening post. Its clear you just made some things up and obviously did not listen to whole interview attentively. Excuses for why you can't find something that never existed in the first place doesn't make you look any better. You lied plain and simple, and spread misinformation about an athlete unfairly.

I will not admit I was wrong as several of the lengthy interviews of different athletes are no longer accessible. What I will admit is that I understand why Keely was shocked after the race.
There has been only one athlete in the last 43 years to go out in sub 56 and hang on with a sub 60 last lap: Pamela Jelimo 1:54.01. Pamela did hers all by herself, despite Werro came home faster. So yes it's understandable that Keely was in disbelief because after REWATCHING the race Werro never strained or tied up very much. That could very will been her PERFECT race of her career. I honestly hope not as I would like to see Werro and Keely both run faster; however, I don't know if Werro can have things fall into place so perfectly for her again. Maybe but not likely as everything was near perfect...
1.) Werro got out fast right behind the rabbit and ran inside Lane 1.
2.) Werro got passed by Keely at 500m and had someone to chase.
3.) Stayed behind Keely around penultimate turn
4.) Made one move on final straight to pass Keely, running very little extra distance
I would definitely like to see both of the young ladies run faster and while I'm hoping & wishing....let's add Athing Mu get her head straight and out of Never Neverland & get back into prime competitive form 😉

Vipam,
Saying you can't find it is the weakest cop out ever. You're being intellectually dishonest and again it's obvious you just made it up.

I don’t particularly like VIPAM but what quotes are in question? I see some of them here.
That's too bad you don't like a person who don't even know; however, as a Christian, I Iove you because I'm supposed to.
I appreciate you finding BOTH OF KEELY'S QUOTES and also posting the link in which they can read I actually wrote ALMOST EXACTLY what Keely stated
NOW HOW MANY of you bashing me for lying would like to recant and take your foot out your mouth❓
You are welcome. It wasn’t hard to find. Those who accused you of lying will of course run away like cowards. Welcome to the internets, as George W Bush would say.

Weellll, I get what you're saying but this is not entirely true.
Last year in the world final even she (KH) went out in 55.85 and ran 59.06 for 1.54.91.
But I suspect you meant to say going out in sub 56 and hanging on with a sub 59 - which is what Werro did. In fact she nearly broke 58 as she closed in 58.1 (ish) as her opening lap was 55.8. (I also have to believe Semenya did the same in 2018 but I only know the split at 600m was 1.25.37)
Funnily enough the splits for Jelimo were incredibly similar. The pace was 55.66 (marginally slower than yesterday), with Jelimo probably right at 55.8 as well. 1.25.12 at 600m vs 1.25.6 so Werro with a faster finish.
I do agree with you that things really fell into place for AW in this one. She had great pacing through 500m and right when she needed to maintain impetus down the back straight, Keely came flying past and basically became her second pacemaker. She never had to leave lane one until the final 90 or so meters so it was about as efficient a race as you'll get at this level.
I'm glad someone did your homework for you. Those espn quotes still don't change the fact you took a couple of lines Keely said and spun them wildly out of context. This is why you are getting bashed, and also why Letsrun put a disclaimer on your post because its clearly misleading.

A person's opinion isn't misleading it's simply their opinion, which was based off what Keely's interview that everyone can now read themselves and take up their own opinion (Thanks to Mallory). I found 2 of her statements to be a little arrogant but NOT too offensive 👍.
The same way I took Hicham El Guerrouj back in the day when he was asked, "What does he think about during his races?"
His reply: "I often think about whose going to finish 2nd and whose going to finish 3rd"
Now I MYSELF still think Keely was partly in shock and a bit arrogant but that doesn't mean I don't like her because I think she is a PHENOMENALLY talented and beautiful athlete❗

You are the main one I was speaking about with such harsh acquisition and you were wrong Sir. There are some old posters on here like myself that love the sport enough not to post lies or made up shock statements.
Now 007run you don't have to apologize as everyone can see you grossly misspoke.
