It’s possible I should say Kipketer 2.0 is here. If you watch some of his races from his prime he glides in lane 2 and still beats everyone in the end. Rudisha was more devoted to front running.
And Arop looks good as well - it's not as if he had a crap race or anything. That was a super solid opener for him yet the momentum is definitely with Cooper right now. I totally lost track of what was going on behind them and have no idea about the other place things lol.
That was just ridiculous, but you just knew that he was going to do it on the home stretch - can you imagine going shoulder to shoulder with a world champion and Olympic silver medalist, and not backing down?! The balls ...
Amazing how he ran half the turns in lane 2, must have cost him a half second minimum. Kid's already the best in the world currently with Wanyonyi being unimpressive.
Burgin and Wanyonyi next in Oslo if EW makes it back. Burgin looked better than Arop did today. It might be a bit of an unsatisfying conclusion as those guys have World Ultimates and Cooper is ending at USA Outdoors.
He’s for sure going 1:41.xx this year. At this point the WR is on borrowed time. Made that 1:42.70 look easy with several meters added running wide for over half the race
Is it crazy to say that I think he could get the WR this year after what he's done + today?
you don’t get extra credit for running farther lol
In fact the route he decided to take offered least resistance not more
He is a freak show
could have run anything needed to win
Well it is only to back your final two bullet points. He is so good that he can prioritize a smooth run, running extra for positioning (to win the race, not maximize time) and lack of jostling. Few can do that.

No. And that’s scary to think about. How many 800m runners have opened their season with a 1:42.70? That’s wild if you think about it. Cooper looked so strong and relaxed - no strain on that face when passing Arop. When he said “let’s send it” he wasn’t kidding. Imagine being 17 years old and running your first DL 800 ever. I’ve never been more excited by an athlete in T&F history.

I think it is. Cooper has shown he has the strength to close in 26 seconds. So he needs to be in around 1:14.8 at 600 to have a shot. It’s a little bit too far right now. This is not a knock on him.
