How fast do the treadmills go on the submarine?

Of course, whatever the DoD wants Murphy to do is final. But it’s worth considering that are many ways a person can serve. Let’s say hypothetically the Navy gives Murphy an opportunity to keep running instead of going subs. He could compete in a navy singlet. Show up to race day interviews and expos in his dress uniform. He would be repping the nation’s colors on the biggest stages! This would boost recruitment into the armed forces, and improve the public opinion of the military. What an excellent way to serve the country! There are many submarine officers, but there is only 1 Murphy Smith.

I wonder if there are treadmills on submarines. I've read that some have bowling alleys but I know that oxygen consumption was once an issue on subs so maybe running would use too much of it. Or maybe that's changed recently. I'm curious.

You cannot have 'another contract' if you are in WCAP, nor can you have an agent. Your Nike 'contract' veers through WCAP for gear and travel.

Most subs have one treadmill and exercise bike as well as free weights but shared by many in very limited space. Very challenging or almost impossible to do serious running on a sub. Most crew members put on weight during a mission. Absolutely not conducive for elite runners.

Interesting article. Thanks for posting. It paints quite the picture of serving underwater in a 100 yard tube for weeks or months at a time. A single treadmill is likely available on Murphy's sub, but for multiple reasons he probably won't be pounding out 20 miles per day on it.

As tough as modern sub living is, life aboard WW1 and WW2 subs was orders of magnitude more horrific. There are plenty of YouTube videos on this topic that are borderline hard to watch.

Not sure why I keep getting banned for “hijacking the thread” while having my posts deleted. I know exactly who is doing the banning and deleting btw. I’m about his age.

(1) I graduated from the Naval Academy mid 1980s, ran for Cantello, ran (or tried to post collegiately). I liked Al overall but he was infamously a Capital D Dick. Anyone who says otherwise (1) just doesn’t know him (2) is lying.

(2) I tried to race post collegiately and training and deployments just got in the way too much. By the time I left active duty my body had broken down too much and I couldn’t race anymore.

also I got divorced while active duty and the lifestyle absolutely played a large factor. I remarried but not for another 10 years.

i became a lawyer after I got out and all of the active duty time put me way way behind my peers. Not sure I ever caught up.

(3) I’m a huge fan of Murphys and wish him well and I apologize if I let mg negativity get in the way of his incredible accomplishment

To follow up it doesn’t make sense to me that with the “Great” men of the world including the “Great” coaches their flaws, including their tempers, are well known facts. but with Cantello we’re supposed to just pretend like this doesn’t exist. Even though his crazy temper and moods are the first, middle, and last thing you’ll talk about with every other grad who ran for him.
